Auto-Lock Didn’t
Auto-Lock Didn’t
I have the auto-lock on, so I thought the car would lock itself anytime I walked away from it. Went to my car this morning to find it had been tossed by some nare-do-well. No damage, just some parking meter change missing. I’m trying to figure this out though - why wasn’t it locked? The last time I accessed it I just went in the trunk to get something and walked away. It beeped at me several times rapidly which I took to mean it was locked, but maybe it actually was crying out “don’t forget to lock me!”
Anyone know if the auto lock doesn’t activate when only the trunk is accessed? Or is the system just not reliable?

I don't use this feature so nothing more that's helpful.

Thanks guys. I guess I’d hear that rapid beeping before usually in the context of leaving the car/opening trunk while the car was running so I thought it was a safety notification of some sort. Now I know! And that gives me a little more confidence to trust the system.
Now my fear is that having discovered money in my car, this miscreant may be tempted to get in again, and finding the car locked may use more forceful means of entry....

Almost the only time I (used to) get the rapid beeping is when I close the tailgate. I have learned to stop there for a few seconds until the tailgate closes, then walk away, and since I have done this, no more rapid beeping.
Mine gave me the silent treatment. I will turn it off and turn it on again the next time I drive it.
Could it be like a child or a pet dog acting out because I have not been spending enough time with it lately? I’m pretty sure that is why Auto Stop Start has deserted me.

If you walk away while the tailgate didnt "fully" close then the car wont lock via auto lock. I found out the hard way myself as well. I came out from work to find my prescription sunglasses (wtf?), some change, and my detailing tool set taken from the trunk (~$1k worth of stuff). Dude left a lighter and via cctv from the building I work at I see he touched the rear passenger door as well when he was closing it. Left a nice set of prints there. PD was able to get DNA evidence from the lighter (skin flakes on the spark mechanism) and the prints as well. Both pieces matched and they were able to ID the guy. This was about 1.5 years ago. The guy recently got "picked up" again by PD so I'm waiting for the DA to call and we'll move from there.
Now I always spam the lock button on my key fob until I hear the doors lock as I walk away. Even the single beep isnt enough for me anymore.

yup any more than a single beep its an issue. two single beeps you are good. sorry to hear that happened. i usually wait till the tailgate closes before closing the car. or i go inside and lock the car via the app when it happens.
Thanks for the tip. Going to try this the next time I close the tailgate...
The tailgate needs to close completely before you walk away in order for auto lock to work. The rapid beep means it did not lock. Similarly if you get out first and start to walk away before a passenger closes their door on exit, the auto lock also won’t engage.
