A6 Service - Would you?

Hi all,

I am leasing a 24' RDX with 8k miles on it. The number 6 code just popped up. I am kind of debating on whether or not it is even worth doing this service. I know that most people do, but since it's a lease, I am kind of on the fence. Just curious what you guys would do/recommend.

Thanks!

When does the system think that you will be doing your next oil change? Have you changed the oil at all yet? The MM advances (recommends earlier) various maintenance items so that they coincide with the next oil change. If the next oil change after that is anticipated to be too late, they will say do it with your upcoming oil change. Supposedly this is so that you can minimize trips to the dealer, at the expense of doing maintenance items before they are really necessary. Traditionally, the rear differential had a 15k initial interval -- I would not let it go past that. 15k is also the interval that the maintenance plan the dealer wanted to sell my wife would have done that service. I suggest that you consult the dealer as to whether you can/should just wait until ~15k miles to do that service (separate from the oil change). I did change my wife's at 11.x k miles based on the MM, but I do it myself for under $30.

I would do it since that's what the factory recommends.

Odd that this code would come up with only 8k miles on it. I got mine done at 2 year and 18K miles.

That's pretty cheap.

However, Some of use don't have the tools or feel comfortable taking on that task. It's not that expensive at the dealer, or a good Honda/Acura repair shop.

I am still puzzled why dealerships charge less for regular oil change vs rear diff. Its faster to do and parts cost the same or less. 5qts of oil and oil filter is easily $25 or more.
I guess the theory is that oil change is a classical bait to get you in the door, so they probably giving their bottom price just to get you to come in…
