2020 RDX third Party Tow Package Suggestions

Hi all,

Any recommendations on tow packages from third parties (not the $800 dealer package)?

I know the limit is 1500 pounds...

One last tip and I’m pretty sure you know not to do this. Stay away from the dealer for the install. I installed my own receiver but now I need the wire harness. My dealer wanted $221 for the harness without the hands free and $747 for the harness install!!! That’s three times what I paid them for to have remote start put in. Of course I told them an emphatic NO. Paid $160 for a harness on eBay from Curry Acura in NY and found a U-Haul video on how to do the install. Should only take about 30 total
time. It’s just plug and play.

Thanks so much! Yep, I definitely know not to have the dealer install the parts. I saw the cost for just the parts is $800 and change and laughed.

I did however confirm that once a trailer hitch is installed, the tailgate kick sensor needs to be relocated.

I've confirmed the following 2 parts are required:

tailgate sensor - 08L91-TJB-200B
trailer hitch harness - 08L91-TJB-200

Note: The above does not include the that actual hitch which I would get from a third party like etrailers etc..

Thanks!

Since the tow capacity is only 1500#, you can probably go with the Acura 1 1/4” receiver. Coupled with the trim piece it is a nice looking install. I didn’t install the wiring harness because I only use it for a bike rack.

I just installed the Curt 2” hitch on mine, purchased from etrailer. While not as good looking as Acura’s 1 1/4” with the new panel, it gets the job done and I prefer having the 2”. I didn’t even have to lower the exhaust-just removed the back lower bumper panel.

I agree with @mmm def 2" is the way to go. Many more accessories for a 2" like bike racks, cargo bins, removable bumpers, etc.

Keep in mind, only the manufacturer can set the legal towing load limits; if the car came from the factory with a 1,500 pound towing limit, that is the legal limit regardless of how many aftermarket upgrades you put on it. What this in turn means is, if you're in an accident, even if you did nothing wrong, you can be found liable if you were towing over the limit.
