2019 vs 2021

2019 vs 2021
I’m looking to purchase an RDX end of this year / early 2022. Can’t hold off anymore because we have to give our CRV back to our folks after borrowing it for a year. The market is crazy but we need a car so can’t really wait another year.
In my area (Southern California), a new Aspec goes for about 47k and Advance for 49k. However similar spec 2019 used models with relatively low mileage <30k miles…these can be had for high 30s/ low 40k.
We could stretch the budget to get new since we typically drive our cars 10-15 years. However Acura products are reliable and we don’t mind buying used.
With that said, are there certain non-fixable issues in the 2019 that would make me go for the brand new 21/22 MY instead? I’ve read up on the infotainment issues with CarPlay but seems software upgrades have been pushed out for 2019? Not sure if the 21 MY got new or updated hardware?

With this said, one never knows what different suppliers Acura uses each year, theoretically with the same specs, but possibly with different performance or reliability.

We just traded in our crv for a 2019 aspec just to save the 10k over the 2021.(knowing the refresh is coming)
if i wasnt fixated on the apex blue i’d have saved a bunch for a tech or advanced
Most wont do it but travel for a deal. Here there are LOADS of rdx and im sure in other markets as wel. Sometimes u need to travel for a deal

As someone who has a 2019, I would avoid it and get a 2021.
2019 had too many bugs as being the first year of the 3G (most have a fix), but they are just annoying to deal with as most dealer need to replicate the issue in order to get it corrected.

From what I've heard, Acura had a whole bunch of connector problems that they fixed in the '21.

'21 is now included in the TSB related to the MOST bus connector that's been a continual problem with my '19...Awaiting SIXTH repair. I like the 100k warranty with buying certified used, but apparently tsb items are only covered during the original warranty period. Keep us posted and let us know what you decide and how it goes. Aside from the infotainment problems, I LOVE this vehicle, but this has been a massive hassle.

I personally would wait as late as possible to see what the ‘22 looks like. I think there will be some important updates, and if that’s true then the used market will reflect the lower demand fo ‘19-‘21. Also maybe supply chain problems will be a little better by then?
I would also point out that IMO the sweet spot for value is the Tech package. I realize we’re in a different market, but I bought mine new for $41k.

Yeah the only thing that the Advance offered that I really wanted was the hands-free tailgate. Wasn't worth it for me. But everyone has their priorities.

If you are going for an Advance, it appears that Acura dropped the adaptive headlights in MY2020/MY2021. In the MY2019, that kept the Advance trim from achieving Top Safety Pick+ rating by the IIHS.

That's about the only significant difference I'm aware of between the model years. There's of course the difference in white color (diamond white vs platinum white) and maybe other colors.

I have the 2019 RDX. as others said, get all the TSB fixes done if you end up getting it. Outside of usual TSB and recalls, I have to do these so far:
1. The radio antenna module was bad and FM channel reception was bad. Replaced under warranty
2. USB module was bad with carplay disconnecting randomly. Fakra connector replaced. Replaced under warranty
3. Gauge module to be replaced when part comes back in stock. To be replaced under warranty

I would go for 20 or 21 if used but price for used
Will be close to new. I know your situation is not the best and all shortages are not in your favor.
Maybe get something very cheap up to 5K for a year or so, and wait till you can get something new. You wont loose too much on $5K
Just a thought, could be stupid.

Thanks I saw the MY2022 trim discussion in the other thread as well. I'm thinking about springing for a brand new one because the value of buying used isn't as enticing right now. We have the funds to buy new, and with the improvements to 2022 I'm thinking of going for the advance model just for the noise reduction improvements that were made.

"Advance Package models feature the quietest cabin in RDX history. This is achieved with an additional sound insulator in the ceiling, and even more sound insulation added to the dash, under the hood and over the drivetrain tunnel. The rear doors also receive an insulator and acoustic glass. In the cargo area, the cargo bins now feature sound insulation, and the rear hatch inner covering has additional sound deadening materials."
the previous Advance package only had acoustic glasses in the front driver/passenger windows, now it looks like it'll be extended through the rear passenger area & more insulation in the cargo area too!

It seems Acura really listened to all the complaints about noise and have instituted several measures to improve it. Hopefully they were successful.
In addition, this was in the opening summery of the press release.

Extensive refinement updates, including an enhanced Active Sound Control (ASC) system, reduce road noise and increase cabin quietness on all RDX models
