So I am just driving along and this fault code pops up on my screen. I pull over and then the car would not go back into gear. I tried several times after turning the car on and off. Finally, I locked the car and left for a few minutes to ensure that the car disconnected from the key.
Came back a minute later and the car would go into gear. Now the system said I had an emission problem and my BSI radar was not working though it was.
Booked the car in this morning and the dealer saw all the fault codes. He cleared them and told me to keep an eye on them.
Software glitch cause by a solar storm? The car ran fine despite the message warnings.

That's crazy! I can't believe all these new MDX's are having issues. (The 2015 power steering one on the other thread and now this).
You're not even 1000km in and you're getting this. Hopefully this is a simple fix and it won't come up again.
Keep us posted
Yeah, I know. I asked the dealer to reflash the vehicle's computer operating system. They said the car is so new, they don't have any software tools for it yet.
I had a dash cam plugged into my cigarette lighter. I have had this camera since the day I bought the car. They say this could have interfered with the computer system. I can't see how.

Smells like BS and they're looking to cover their asses.......

Hmmm...that is not running fine if for a moment(s) there, you cannot go back into gear!!!!
All from your GoPro plugging into cigarette lighter (not even USB)?! Boy those Acura service folks must take you for an idiot! Geez, i sometimes hate those service folks!

Hi Tigmd. Yes, it was scary when it would not go into gear. The actuator is electronic as opposed to a lever and cables on my 2011 MDX. I have my concerns about the electronic actuator because it is just another potential point of failure.
I thought I was going to have to call a flat bed, but the system eventually reset and accepted my shift commands.
The service advisor and mechanic called me and asked who did the wiring install of my camera. I said I did. They then said this could void the warranty. I said WTF??? It is plugged into the cigarette adapter and they said oh. I had tucked the cable in to hide it, so they thought the camera was hard wired which they said would void the warranty.
The dashcam has wifi and they say all the Acura systems communicate wirelessly?????? First I have heard of this. A wireless BUS system?

I could be wrong...but i think that most transmission stick/lever are electronic. In other words, even on my 2015 MDX, when i shift out of PARK, the lever moves and actuates an electronic thingy to tell the transmission to shift out of PARK. I think most modern cars (including your 2011??) are like this...the days of hardwired from lever to transmission is long past i think.

I still have the shop manual for my 2011 MDX. The transmission on this model at least was in fact operated by a cable pulling on a transmission lever. I prefer this method.

I am pretty certain the shift lever on the 6-speed automatic is still mechanically actuated, since I believe it is the same transmission as that was used in the 2011 model. The 9-speed is fully shift-by-wire.

that's crazy, man.
they must think your camera might be some sort hacking tool that caused the ECU (or sensor responsible for the shifting) to go on a fritz.
