Waze help
Waze help
For the past year and a half I have been using Waze through CarPlay with excellent results. A couple of weeks ago Waze could not locate itself and it showed my position in the map at the last destination that I was many miles away. My Location Services are On while using the app.
After tinkering unsuccessfully with settings, I uninstalled Waze and re installed it. No it locates itself but I have an audio problem. In the past when Waze gave spoke a direction, the volume of the radio would automatically lower the volume significantly. Now the whenWaze talks, the radio volume doesnt not change so it is difficult to hear what Waze has to say.
Any ideas what I need to change?
TIA

The last time I had issues with Waze (really with Carplay in general) is when I did an update to my iPhone 6S+ from IOS 12.X.X to IOS 13.X.X. I couldn't use Waze for about 3 months until after update 13.4.X. I haven't used Waze since the Mar/20 lockdown. Currently have IOS update 14.3 on my iPhone 6S+. Not 100% sure of the most current Waze update. It shows v4.69.2.0 as shown in the "About" section under "Settings" in Waze.
It might be your phone and/or Waze that needs to updated?

When my Waze wasn't working with the wired Carplay, it still worked perfectly over bluetooth. I could still hear the Waze audio over the front MDX speakers. Does it work better not connected to Carplay? You still have Apple and Google maps with Carplay. Are those two apps also having problems?

Neither Google nor Maps have problems
It's bugs in Waze or CarPlay. I have opposite issue with Waze and Android Auto. Waze would mute music when giving voice guidance, but doesn't unmute when it finish. I simply say, "Hey Google, unmute the volume" to get it working again. Problem comes and goes. I just learn of ways to work around the bugs until they fixes it.

Did you always have that issue, or it is new behavior?
It comes and goes. They'll fix one bug and introduce another. I've learned thru the years using Android Auto in the car, it will never be perfectly bug-free. Thankfully, a reboot will usually fixes 99.9% of my issues. The other 0.01% usually requires research on Google to find a work-around.

No audio skipping issues here. Usually when audio skips is when I'm travelling thru an area with bad cell reception. Most music apps (Spotify, Pandora) caches music for a good 60 secs, so I never really notice any issues. When travelling, I always pre-download surrounding area maps so Google Maps will still work offline without cell service.
