Very random shaking above 45 mph
2016 MDX AWD Tech. Had some random steering wheel shake around 55 mph just before exiting interstate this past weekend. At first I thought it was the road, as once I came to a stop at the off-ramp stop light it went away. Drove back home after some shopping (20 miles on interstate) with no incidents. Fast forward to this afternoon. Was driving around 45-50 mph and it started again. I wasn't braking, nor was I accelerating all that much. I let the car slow down, turned into a parking lot and it went away. Again I wondered if it was the road. Backtracked to test this section of road a second time and no shaking came back. I'm perplexed...
I would guess tires. Either rotate the tires and or rebalance. It's quite possible you lost a wheel weight. I have also experienced name brand tires that do not work on specific cars. Switching to a different brand tire cured the problem. It's also entirely possible you have some front end components that are nearly worn out.
Turns out it was the E brake mechanism on the driver side rear. A pin broke and it was loose and would partially engage. The technician at my Honda dealer (Closest Acura dealer is 95 miles from me) was able to reproduce it after driving a couple times. Easy quick fix, lucked out this time!
