retractable cargo cover

anyone installed the retractable cargo cover? what do you think of it?

is this more of a privacy cover to keep folks from seeing what's in the cargo area, or would it also work to prevent items from flying into the passenger area in the event of an accident? I have a baby seat installed in the center of the 2nd row and stroller and other items in the cargo area (3rd row seats folded down).

Privacy. I passed on it because i do use 3rd row occasionally...too much of a pain to take down and store.

You might be better off with a pet barrier ($70 from Weather-tech) and/or cargo net to secure items like that in the back. I found an over-sized universal fit cargo net that sits spread eagle in the rear on Amazon ($23+shipping) that can handle large items when needed.

Had retractable cover for three previous SUVs. They all spent most of their time in the garage. Always in the way......

I have the cargo cover, for the sole purpose of covering what's stored inside the rear cargo area.

The cargo cover cloth is so thin that I doubt it can prevent heavy objects from flying out in case of accidents.

thanks for all the advice and suggestions. I like the idea of the pet barrier from Weathertech but can't see how sturdy it would be since it's just held in by extending those posts. I'll look into the cargo net--it'll probably be a hassle to use but I'd feel safer with it in place.

Anyone have any more recent experience with the cargo cover, specifically for model years 2017 or 2018? Is it made out of vinyl or cloth?

I have one...not sure what the material is but it sort of looks like coated canvas, at least it has a similar texture. I do think they can be a source of a minor rattle on certain road conditions. We rarely use the third row and I think it cleans up the look.

Shout out to the thread date police...I guess they are rivals to the search function police because they want opposite outcomes.
