Remote start???

Debating on whether to get a an OEM Acura or aftermarket remote start system. Besides the extra key fob for the aftermarket, is there any real difference between the two? Any info would be helpful.

I do have the oem remote however I think the aftermarket ones I had before in other cars works better over a longer range.

I have the OEM and seems to have worked seamlessly into the FOB as designed. It's 2way indicator and range leaves a lot to be desired. It works well for me though as I park within 100feet from my unit.
I don't like the aftermarket because of the extra fob and the need to splice wires, etc on its installation.

I also have (and love) the OEM Remote Start in my Advanced. The ONLY thing that would give me pause is that at the moment the Acura solution does not support Remote Start via the Connect app (I have heard rumors it is coming down the line). Aftermarket options (Viper for one) do have this feature baked in now. Just my $.02.

Agree.

Carrying 2 fobs (one for the car, and one for the remote start) is not very convenient, and also not professional for a Cdn$60K SUV at all.

The keyless entry and the remote start functions are both integrated into the single OEM remote start fob.

Wondering if after market goodies like viper smart start can be added to the oem remote start system. I would love to be able to start from my iPhone as I do park a distance from my office. This would not require an extra fob key.

^^^^^

Even better if there is an AcuraLink app available for the Iphone that can emulate the original key fob for locking/unlocking doors and starting the car, too.

In this case, there will be no need for any key fob at all. The Iphone is all that one needs to do remote starting, to lock/unlock doors/trunk, and also to start the car.

Would be real nice however, I do not see that happening anytime soon.

Actually the AcuraLink app does lock/unlock it just doesn't start or open trunk. The potentially good news (if they do implement it) is that the company that powers the AcruaLink service, Agero, supports Remote Start. We'll just have to see if Acura decides to implement it in the future.

Since you're asking: why not include the virtual steering wheel in the app so we can steer it with our IPad? If you can control a helicopter from your Iphone then steering a car with drive by wire steering should be easy.

The MDX will then become a $50K 1/1 scale-size remote-control toy model for the wealthies.
