Rear Camera
Rear Camera
Have to say, rear camera sucks. Very poor design. Im sure the reasoning is because it is wide angle so they put it flush to the edge of the handle- rear lip. If you forget to wipe it it barely functions. One drop of water will blur the whole screen. On my trip to Vermont salt and dirt was constantly kicked up on the lens. By the way, I had a 2004 MDX and it wasn't like that.

Exactly. I had an RDX loaner for a while during service and the backup camera was so much better. The resolution was a lot higher, so you could actually tell what was back there instead of just being able to see "hmm... there is something back there" like with the MDX.
The MDX is the first vehicle I've had with a backup camera, so I didn't know any better when I bought it. Oh well.

but MDX has grainer camera BUT dynamic lines that turn lol
I'm sure all these things will be fixed for RDX & MDX on 16+ models
I wouldn't be so sure...I'm visiting my dealer again this week and will try to test a 2016 model. I will report back.
Isn't the guide lines just a software image overlay? Without sensors, those guidelines don't really do too much in my opinion.
This is the first vehicle I own with a rear-view camera, so can't compare with others like the TLX. Higher resolution wouldn't be a big deal for me, but I would like to see better low-light performance.

It's not only that the camera is terrible but the LCD display is of very low resolution by today's standards. It almost reminds me of Super Mario Brothers video games...
The camera/screen combo simply sucks, especially on a $50K car with aspirations of being a luxury brand.

Low light yes ANDmaybe placement where when it rains/snows/ice isn't obstructed!
I rainX my camera but feel i shouldnt have to
I complained about that very issue on my 2014 Adv SHAWD MDX to my dealer. I happen to also have a 2012 Adv SHAWD TL and everyday I drive the TL I'm reminded how poor a quality the newer MDX is. I took these pictures as a comparison on this post: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-mdx-...issues-902010/
The picture comparison says it all.....

Have to agree here, that's the first thing I noticed when backing up. My wife has a 2012 TL, that backup camera is crazy good as far as low level lighting. My 2015 MDX seems like crap in comparison...but but but, it has 3 modes and dynamic lines lol. Honestly I'd take the camera in my wife's TL over my MDX any day.
Ok, everyone agrees the MDX camera isn't that great. And low light is useless. LED light upgrades don't seem to solve that problem. All that being said...
What can be done? Are other model camera's compatible with the MDX? Can a swap be done? Is there an Acura tech on here with some insight?
Thnx, Drew

In Canada and I have a 2014 Advance version with the around view camera. It is the best compared to other cars I have owned or rented in terms of backup or around view cameras. Resolution is really great. I have been given navs, tech and base versions of the mdx in the past as loaners when doing maintenance. The backup camera really sucks. Acura does have a better camera in the mdx in Canada for the advance version. Surprising hat it is not made available to other versions or in the US.
My 2015 Tech's backup camera is mediocre at best, and definitely a step down from the camera on the 07 RDX Tech that I just traded. I used to rely entirely on the camera in the RDX for backing up before, but find myself looking backwards a lot more now in the MDX to double check what can barely be discerned in the camera.

Brightness And Lens Protector..
I think it has been mentioned, but when in Reverse, you can hold in the center round knob and adjust the brightness of the camera. When I first tried this my camera was set to 60%, after turning it up to 100%, big difference. Even at night it has been acceptable. But I am sure it can always get better.. I also found a small piece of protective film over the lens. I peeled that away and that also made a large difference.. I am sure it is their to protect the camera lens, but for me it obstructed the purity of the camera lens.
