Mice and the MDX

My wife’s x1 had some mice damage...been waging a war against them for a few months and I am not sure I can win this. The x1 is quite a bit lower ride height than the MDX. We have a 1 car garage. Do you think the MDX is high enough off the ground that mice would not be able to get inside? I have traps all over....snap traps, heart stopping traps, booby trapped water features, and we don’t live in filth.

My guess is that they can reach the MDX as well. No mice expert though.

my experience when camping with rodents around is that they have NO problem getting into the engine compartment of a 1 ton pickup. And they can do it pretty quick. MDX would be a piece of cake to teach the young ones on.

This is a tough one. I had the same thing happen to a pickup I owned. Mice, squirrels, or something chewed through wiring. Cost to repair wasn't as aggravating as the inconvenience. Was told my case was not isolated and it was happening everywhere. The rodents like the items on the vehicle which are made with soy. Pretty much all vehicles have it. Found an old article online which is worth the read. Good luck!!!

Learned about it watching South Main Auto videos on YouTube. He uses it on all makes and models whenever he repairs rodent damage. He comments about how expensive it is, but it works.

apparently as mentioned rodents love any wiring insulation or other items that have soy content, possibly for the salt. As mentioned honda and others do sell tape with capsaium in it to repel them, but likely only in the spots with the repair. A friend that spent time in Germany said it is a real problem there with certain rodents. And we have a few camping spots where as soon as we pull in, up goes the hood. And it stays up. Besides the taste of the wring, they like the warm spot, even on a hot day, and the darkness and shielding from the hood etc. Once the hood is open, they scurry around on the ground but stay out of the vehicle. And for whatever reason, they like our friends dodge pickup WAY more than my GMC. Something is more tasty in the Dodge.

Interestingly, about 6 years ago I bought a 97 Mercedes SL500, imaculate conditions, full service records. As I went through the service records I found that several hydraulic lines for the soft top had been replaced, but not under warranty with the claim "rodent damage" assigned to the cause. One day with nothing else to do I was doing a "deep clean" on the compartment the top folded into and the vacuum found and sucked up a bunch of cracked open sunflower seeds. Right in the area the rodent damage had likely been. Looks like they used the hydraulic lines as desert after finishing a snack of sunflower seeds!

rodent tape comes pre-installed on some parts already (i.e. knock sensor cable
