We had Rear Diff service done on our 2017 MDX Sport Hybrid at 13K miles. I just now noticed they used the wrong fluid 08200-9007AFluid, AWD. Car is now 32.5K miles. So we've been driving with the wrong fluid for almost 20K miles! They should have used08200-9008A, DW1. Are these two ATF fluid similiar? Any premature wear to our TMU unit due to them using wrong fluid? I already made appt for this Saturday to change TMU and AT to DW1 fluid ASAP. For sure I will let SA know they screwed up using the wrong fluid. And will be asking for comp TMU fluid changes.
Seems like my local Acura dealer mechanic didn't know the different fluid requirements for Sport Hybrids vs regular ICE MDX's. They screw up last time over-filling the engine oil on both my SH. The SH only takes 4.5 qt (with filter), they had over-filled to over 5.5 qt. Had to bring both cars back for adjustments.
Just out of curiosity, I checked the service manual for regular ICE MDX, and indeed the rear diff calls for 08200-9007A DPSF ATF fluid. The Sport Hybrids specification pg. 147 clearly specified ATF-DW-1 for both TMU and 7DCT which is 08200-9008A.
This is very disappointing and concerning to me. The wrong fluid has been in our MDX for almost 4 years and 20K miles!! I know still have the warranty but damn my TMU may be damaged already.
So i just dropped off our MDX-SH at my local Acura dealer to change 7DCT and TMU fluid. I bought up that past TMU fluid change may have used the wrong fluid based on description on receipt. Service Manager said he will check fluid color when draining TMU. He showed me some pictures, the drain fluid was Cherry Red in color which is correct for DW-1. DPSF fluid would have been a lighter Caramel color. So I guess they did use the correct DW-1 fluid but billed out with wrong part number. Near heart attack avoided
$300 to change 7DCT and TMU with 08200-9008A DW-1. I'm good for another 30K miles.
$300!!! wow, I changed the hybrid DCT and TMU, 7 qts of DW1, $60 and less than 2 hours, including time to position the car on my portable hydraulic sissor lift, lift the car, drain/fill and drop the car and remove and store the lift. In the shop with fixed hydraulic lifts, I could easily do the job in less than an hour.
$300 is nothing to me. I'd rather have professionals do it then tried to mess with it myself. I'm horrible with cars.
Plus I have no lifts or any tools at home. Not worth the hassle to me.
I came across this post when searching for B16 maintenance. Though it was a year ago I still want to point out that besides the rear diff fluid, the parts does not seem to be right:
"90471-PX4-000 : WASHER, DRAIN (18MM)" is NOT for hybrid rear diff(or TMU) from my research. Referrring to 2017 MDX Sport Hybrid B16 Service-How to Replace Twin Motor Unit Fluid? - AcuraZine - Acura Enthusiast Community both the fill plug washer and drain plug washer should use the same 94109-20000(20MM). I would ask the dealer to do the item5 again for free, if possible.

Hello. Who is your local Acura Dealer based that seems to know what they're doing regarding MDX Sport Hybrid 7DCT and TMU fluid changes and charges fair prices.
