MDX with 9-speed ZF
Hi!
I want to buy Acura MDX 2016-2017
However, I am afraid of ZF 9 speed gearbox.
Does this gearbox have a full manual mode?
I drove a Jeep Cherokee 2017 and there was no full manual mode. I could only set the maximum gear, i.e. D3 e.g., it changed 1-2-3 gear, D6 changed to 1-2-3-4-5-6, but I could not force 6 gear myself.
Sorry for my english, I know it's not very good.

The MDX sport hybrid came out in 2017 with a extremely smooth 7 speed dual clutch transmission. It has the same functionality as the 3.5L+9AT MDX with sport paddles and manual sport shift mode options. No towing with the sport hybrid; but, you get 321hp/289tq, Sport+ mode, +25 city/hwy mpgs, most advanced awd system Acura has ever made, and electronic dampers for comfort or sport driving.

You do not understand my question.I have MDX 2012 with 6AT. Her work is satisfactory, she works very smoothly, I can control the runs manually in sport mode. Only aada, I can't turn on the 1st gear when decelerating, it will only fasten when I have the accelerator pedal depressed, but when I release the acceleration, it immediately throws the 2nd gear, it irritates me a bit, but I can live with it. I've heard a lot of bad tires at 9AT. For me, the most important is whether it has exactly the same manual mode. Can I control the fastening of the next gear. Is it so that when I set the 4th gear, the system will consider it as D4 mode, i.e. it will drive from 1 to 4 in AT mode, just will not put 5, 6 .... That's how it works in Jeepie Cherokee 2017 3.6l. It annoyed me damn well. I have a Honda X-ADV with 6speed DCT. This transmission is a phenomenon for me. I only have 55HP and up to 70mph I am always the fastest. Even Supersports 1000 can't handle it, X-ADV weighs 238kg !! My guess is that the 7DCT in MDX Sport Hybrid also works very well and I'm looking for a good offer for 2017-2018 Sport Hybrid, but there are very few and it is not easy. I live in Poland, so I have to find a really good offer because when I add transport and all taxes it gets really expensive. I envy you US car prices and parts prices. For example, OEM half axle for MDX or Odyssey costs in USA $ 220, for me in Poland $ 1200 🙄. Why do you say transmission in Sport Hybrid 2020 sucks? Is this not DCT anymore?

He traded his 2017 MDX with 9AT for a 2020 MDX Sport Hybrid with the 7DCT. He was saying he didn't like the 9AT in his 2017.
The good thing about the 18-20 MDX sport hybrid is they added Carplay for Apple/Android phones. The Sport Hybrid comes in tech or adv models with navigation in North America. You could connect your smartphone and use Apple, Google, or Waze for navigation in Europe. You can also use Siri in almost any language for voice commands, address searches, and voice command music search. The hybrid has the exact same service interval as the 3.5L+9AT sh-awd MDX; with the exception the sport hybrid doesn't have a transfer case to send power to the rear wheels.
I have to try; but, I think you can put the sport hybrid into manual shift mode with the D/S gear select button on center console and select 1st gear with the paddles. I don't think it will downshift into 1st gear when slowing down.

Stay away from the 9 speed, Overall package is nice but the 9 spd is just horrible. Try to get the Hybrid if you can.

We are about to pull the trigger on a 2020 MDX tech. This 9 speed issue has me second guessing our decision. We have a friend who has a 2018 MDX and she told us that sometimes the car hesitates when she accelerates. Is that the extent of the issue? We will be leasing the car for 3 years? Is this really that big of an issue?

Test drive for yourself, some people are ok with the gearbox some or not( I was not).

yes, do some test drives. What I experienced is that the MDX 9 speed, Audi Q5 gearbox behave about the same. The RDX 10 speed is another different animal as is Lexus hyrid CVT and Acura 7 speed Dual clutch. What one person likes another person may hate. Preference wise I rank them (1) Acura DCT 7 speed, (2) RDX 10 speed, (3) Acura 9 speed, (4) Audi Q5 and a very distant (5) Lexus hybriod CVT But what I want is a responsive transmission with no lag, and firm shifts are a plus. And I've not been a fan of CVT's since they came out so I do have a negative bias to start with whenever I drive a car with one. Meanwhile the more I drive our Acura hybrid with the DCT the more I get impressed with it. Haven't found a thing I'd improve. So again, that give me a positive bias towards it. Had we not driven a Acura hybrid but just the other cars I'd probably have said the MDX, RDX, Q5 transmisions were ok, RDX was best of the bunch, guess thats what automatics are like now, but the Lexus CVT, nope not acceptable.

How are cold starts for 2019/20 people? My primary issue with my 2018 is the couple of hard shifts first drive of day esp during cold weather....once warmed up it's pretty acceptable esp on comfort mode where you can't feel the shifts at all.
