I live in the Deep South and have little need for snow/ice handling and did not purchase sh-AWD. We do have tremendous rain/wet handling needs. My trade Honda Pilot was AWD and before that a 4X4 GMC pickup truck.

The tire section doesn’t have updated discussions and I would like to see forum participant’s opinion on the best tire for my ‘18 FWD MDX Tech - with quiet operation and super wet handling capability my most important attributes.

(TireRack results are confusing - too many close options, though I’ve not yet called to talk.). Thanks

 

tires are very subjective, as what works for one might not work for others.
your best bet is to look at the wet ratings, as tire rack usually gives a score... obviously, the higher the score, the better it handles in wet conditions.

tires are full of compromises, if your main concern is the wet handling aspect...pick a tire that has the best score for the conditions!

this continental cross contact LX20 has a wet stopping distance of 152 feet. better than the comparable bridgestone at 158 feet

I have a 2016 honda pilot that came with Bridgestone tires. Recently I put on a set of Michelin defender ms and the pilot feels noticeably more tied to the road. They are a little noises but not much.

I understand it’s all subjective but I value this group’s opinions.

I neglected to say that I have the 245/50r20 tires and honestly and in spite of bad things I read, I’m generally happy with them (Conti LX Sport). But can I do better?

 

Have you considered a summer tire? I had the Firestone Indy 500's and currently have the Pilot Sport 4s on my Hybrid. Both are great tires and solid in the wet. Try going wider as well, 255/45 series

 

Not sure why it didn't work - the tire I put on my wife's RDX is the BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport LT and it is currently the top rated Crossover / SUV Touring All Season Tire on Tirerack.com

 

bmoua - no, not really. Believe it or not we do get some sleet (and occasional 4-6” snow, like two years ago). I’ve thought I wanted more all around capability.

NPB04 - thanks. I’ve seen that. What was your original, can you compare? The question I ask is “Is it better for my needs than the decent Contis?” I have confidence in BFG.

 

The BFGoodrichs replaced the OEM Michelin Primacy MXMs. We pnly have about 1500 miles on the BFGs but so far they have been great. I was a little concerned by the somewhat open and aggressive (?) tread pattern. However the ride has been quiet and very comfortable and mileage has been a little improved. As I mentioned above, the starting price is great and there is a rebate promo going on. So far for the money, they can't be beat in my book. Time will tell as we roll up more miles.
In term of the Conti's - I don't have any experience with them on the RDX, but have had mixed results the PureContact on a Lexus ES350 and ExtremeContact DWS06 on an Accord. The ExtremeContact DWS06 is an excellent tire and the PureContact, not so much. With both tires, neither lived up to the mileage they were supposed to get.
