I didn’t realize the MDX Hybrid plays a noise when in hybrid mode. I noticed it today when pulling into a drive thru with my drivers window down. I thought it was coming from somewhere else. Then when pulling into my garage again with window down I heard it again. From inside the car with the widows up you cannot hear it. It also help that I both instances the sound was bouncing off the walls. I imagine this is a aid in announcing to pedestrians when the car is is electric mode only and moving.

You would think Acura would use an artificial/simulated engine sound since that is a natural sound of a moving vehicle? The hybrid Alien UFO sound can be easily missed if you sneak up on someone with their face buried in a phone.

When I first heard the sound coming from my wife's RLX SH as she was pulling in the garage, I thought it was something defective in the drivetrain :-) Then, after thinking about it for a few minutes, it made sense that the noise was there intentionally. I describe the noise to the sound of an old radio tuning in a station, or a muted sound of AOL synchronizing with the modem in my old computer....

I'm not sure I'd clasify it as a "tone" noise yes. an alert sound, yes, distinctive yes. but not a tone or melody!

when i am running in EV mode I dont hear any “engine” sound at all. At best I can hear a very very low “whizz” that can certainly not be meant to alert pedestrians as it is really low.

It's only audible from outside the car, not inside. I only first heard it when in the driveway when my wife drover her car into the garage. Strange sound - but you notice it!
