Depreciation

I just har the rug pulled out from under me. I checked on trading my 2018 MDX sport Hybrid on a new electric car and I learned that my $53,000.00 MDX hybrid with 12,000 miles is only worth $34,000 dollars. That's $20,000 depreciation for 2 years and 12,000 miles. Wish I'd known this sooner. OUCH

That appears to be low whosale price. About what you should expect on a trade in. If you spent 53K you bought at near MSRP. This is not untypical for any buy sell situation.

If you aren’t in a rush, you can try to sell it on your own.You may come out better than trading. The sport hybrids are a rare find these days. Especially if the color is right and it is the right model (tech vs. adv, etc), and it is clean. Mileage is low, so that is a plus.

Yeah there's a ton working against you: huge discounts on the newer ones, a complete redesign right around the corner, normal depreciation...

Like others have said you can try to sell it on your own and having a hybrid helps you a bit but I would not expect too much at this point. What trim level is it?

The trim level is the Technology pkg. It is dark burnt copper with brown interior, excellent condition. What's the best way to sell it?

Same car as mine with a different color scheme. Out the door you paid about 5K too much.
But to answer your question, auto trader, craigslist would be my first two options as a private party seller. Before advertising it look on line and see what comparables are selling for. Price yours about 500 lower if you want to move it fast. Otherwise maybe a hundred lower than the average. Before selling it have it professionally detailed. 500 well spent to attract attention. Include lots of pictures in your adds.

Where are you located? But I do agree with the above that you paid a lot at purchase so on paper you may take a bigger hit now.

Same color combo as mine. Rare. Took me a while to find one when I purchased. Really wished they did the espresso interior in the fanthom blue. You might want to try carvana.com. They can give you an online quote. If nothing else, it is a quick value check. Although as others have said, don't expect it to be too different than you have already seen. Good luck.

Take if to a local CarMax for a no obligation purchase offer. Keep in mind they tend to be on the low side but will provide another data point for you to think about.

I totally understand why you paid the price you did.

I purchased my Fathom Blue Pearl 19 MDX hybrid Adv in Mar/19 from my local Acura dealership. Availability was extremely low when I was looking, search for a good deal/color combo extended 6-12 hours out from New Mexico, and the current discounts were limited to what you can get with Costco/Bank car buying services for both the hybrid and 3.5L version. The dealership I found the hybrid I wanted in the right trim and color combo was 7 hrs away at an Acura dealership in CO. The only issue was the CO MDX was 4-5 weeks out from being manufactured and delivered to the dealership. My local dealership wasn't part of any Costco/USAA car buying service; but, they meet the price of the CO dealership when I showed them the deal.

I agree with the point of selling privately because the hybrid does command a higher price compared to the similarly MDX tech.

I am pretty sure since its considered in excellent condition, plus with a rare color combination, you should be getting around $40k range. Never go based off of KBB, or if you do, take a huge grain of salt for that number they give. This is because KBB is owned by a used-car company. When we had our Kicks totaled out, insurance paid us almost the entire amount that we paid, back since it only had 6k miles and was 7 months old. KBB and Carfax said it was worth $14k. Carmax would give you a higher quote than Carvana, Zoom, craigslist, Acura, etc. Also, have said brand you are buying the new car to do an appraisal too.

What color exterior and interior did you get for this price? Hybrid advance with espresso interior is hard to come by and I'm having a tough time even getting 12 K off MSRP for this since there's only 2 in my state.

Wow. That deal is unreal. The incentives right now are fantastic, >~25% off for all outgoing Acuras: MDX, TLX, RLX.

I only got $6.5k off my 2019 Sport Hybrid Tech when they first came out, and I was lucky to get that. I certainly don't think I got smoked at the time. I had waited a whole year for one to be available in my region.

There have been no MDX SH Techs in my region since. Only a few Advance, but we don't want the Captain's chairs.

Just keep in mind since Acura has formally discontinued the RLX, there have been incentives to the dealers of $12K which makes a big difference. I just got a quote of roughly $16.7K off the sticker for an RLX SH in Advance trim, (MSRP - $62.925) but am on the fence. It's a good deal pricewise but am not sure if this is the car I want. I've been holding out for the 2021 TLX Type S which is supposed to be out in the Spring................
