Dash Cam

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of getting a dash cam for my 2014 Tech Pkg MDX.

Can you share your experience and suggestions on which one to get?

I was looking at the G1W and AM-M80 from Amazon, they are cheap and have good reviews.

I have a dash cam in my 2002 MDX that is fastened to the windshield just to the right of my rear view mirror. It records in 1080p. The thing with dash cams is you need to decide how much video footage you want to keep. I have a SD card that holds about 4 hours and then records over the older footage. The resolution is fantastic and it has recorded some pretty stupid things. If it clears you of any fault in an accident then it has paid for itself.

Thanks Jackel001. That's my purpose of getting one. People nowadays are driving crazy and don't care if they put other motorists in danger. Just yesterday, I counted 3 cars that cut me off in the freeway without signaling. And saw a bunch of stupid drivers doing dangerous maneuvering in the freeway.

Would you mind sharing the brand and model of your dash cam?

Jackel001, if you could also post a pic of your setup that would be great as well. Thanks.

Does the camera start automatically when you start the car? How is the night vision for your camera?

I currently use a G1W dash cam in my car and will be getting another one when I get my MDX. For the price, the video quality is excellent. Please be careful of fakes out there though.

I am also looking forward to getting a dash cam. They really are convenient and could be a life saver in some cases. Just wondering if the car is off does the camera still run?

I would like one that is not so noticeable and obvious though

Hi Guys
The camera activates when I start the car. It takes a moment to boot up and then starts recording. It records for 5 minutes after I shut down the engine. This is in-case something happens as you are exiting the car...it will be recorded. The night vision is outstanding. It adjusts for all light conditions.

How do you guys take power to it? I'd like to install a dash cam in my cars but I don't wanna have cables running around. And I have both cars in warranty yet.

For my dash cam I ran the power wire up along the joint between the header and the windshield. Then over to the pillar where I tucked it into the space there. Then up under and behind the glove box. It gets its power from the cigarette lighter although I am sure it can be wired into the fuse box on the passenger side.

Here is what I did.

I did the same thing, but tapped into the fuse box using a "Pico 0956PT 10 Amp ATM Mini Blade Fuse Add-A-Circuit Fuse Holder" . I connected a "DROK 3A/15W Dual Power Adapter 12V to 5V Double USB Cable Connector Car Charger For IPhone/iPad/Nokia/HTC" to the add a fuse circuit and used a ring connector on the ground to attach under one of the nuts/bolts near the e-brake assembly. Both of those items are Amazon Prime. If you do not have a secure ground, it won't work. I used a 6ft micro usb to usb extension from the camera to the dual usb (used the dual usb so I have a spare if needed). Tucked the extra cable behind and you would never know its there. I did this both on my 2015 MDX and Prius.

For my camera I used a E-Prance Mini 801. Available on Amazon as well. Make sure you get the "Kingston Digital 32 GB Class 4 microSDHC Flash Card with SD Adapter (SDC4/32GBET)" if you are using the Mini. It's a great cam!
