2016 MPGs

Hi all. I have about 2,000 miles on my 2016 AWD/Tech. Been averaging 19.5 mpg in/around Atlanta. Not sure how to evaluate that, but would call it "mostly" city.

Just took a trip to Savannah for the weekend. About 275 miles on the highway, fully loaded car (4 passengers, dog, luggage). Drove 75-80 mph when conditions would allow it. Got 27 mpg.

Seems pretty good to me, but I would love to hear what others are getting.

Thanks.

That's pretty good highway mileage fully loaded. What gear did it mostly drive in at that speed? Did it ever engage 9th gear?

I would assume it was in 9th gear during some of the longer, downhill stretches. But, truthfully, how would I know? Other than the "D", there is no indicator of the current gear (unless there is some sort of setting I missed to make it visible). I was in "D" with the IDS in "comfort" mode. Is there an indicator somewhere?

Just tap the paddle shifter for an up shift at freeway speed. This will tell you, what gear you are/were in. I find mine goes into 9th at most freeway speeds.

9th gear with vcm activated, you should probably see some pretty good mileage. Interesting that this doesn't show up in the fuel consumption ratings for the 2016 model.

You can also tell from the rpm, at 65 MPH/9th gear the engine would be revving a bit higher than 1500 rpm. 8th gear would be 1850 rpm.

Made the return trip yesterday. Probably drove a little faster (80'ish). Only got 25 mpg this time. I did check and the car was in 9th gear a good bit of the time, just under 2,000 rpms at 80 mph.

Some of the difference may be attributable to the elevation change, which is about 1100 feet uphill coming back, and some of the difference is no doubt due to the increased speed. But, my round trip averaged 26 mpg, which seems pretty good for the 75-80 mph range.

Very smooth and quiet ride, though. Overall, I'm very pleased with my 2016 so far.

I've only had mine for a couple miles. It averages 24.8 right now for mixed hit/cty. Which is surprising for me since i live on top of a giant hill. This hills kills the MPGs on my CT200h and my previous gen MDX.

That's great mileage, especially compared to what we got in out 07 MDX. I'm sure a 5AT vs 9DCT makes a little bit of a difference........
