Dealer trying to get $406 for pad replacement + rotor resurfacing. It would be cheaper to just put BRAND NEW ROTORS on right?
Even with a coupon its $299 locally.
Brake Pad measuring 3mm.
Please any rec's. I could probably do it myself but wonder how much parts are for this. I dont have a proper lift, nor all the proper tools (would have to borrow).
Where should I get them, and should I just replace the rotor at this point?
46k miles on it.
First time having to do brakes in this car.
2016 MDX (with that crappy tranny in it).

Are you sure the pads are 3mm? Unless you are doing 100% city driving or an Uber/Lyft/doordash driver, you should get almost 2X the mileage from OEM front pads. If going with OEM pads, you probably don't need to resurface unless you are feeling vibrations in the brake pedal when stopping from hwy speeds (like exiting from the hwy ramp and having to come to quick stop at a light). I would lean more towards replacing the pads and doing a brake fluid flush if you haven't had new fluid in +3 years. I would only resurface if I was going with an aftermarket brake pad with OEM rotors (assuming no vibration issues when braking).

I know some people prefer OEM, but having 8 Acuras in total, I can tell you that brake performance and longevity is not an OEM strong suit for Honda/Acura.
I preferred to go aftermarket and I've probably installed rotors about 7 or 8 different times and pads probably 15 times. I settled on Brake Motive ceramic pads and slotted rotors. Very reasonable and I always felt the performance was better than OEM. Installation is fairly straightforward. Youtube Acura MDX rotor replacement and you'll be good to go. I got swapping down my front rotors (both sides) in about an honest hour.
This link is for pads and rotors for your 2016 MDX. These aren't slotted (I prefer slotted rotors for cooling), but you can search for slotted as well. These will work just fine. $120 for new ceramic pads and new rotors. Can't beat it.

Thank you so much! Great info.
I am hesitant about EBAY purchasing.
I am still in warranty (46k miles on my 2016) and so I wanted to buy OEM for the next one, in case I need warranty GOOD WILL repairs. WHat do you think?
If not what is best aftermarket from a reputable dealer (slotted or not)?

Replacing pads and rotors are the most easiest stuff for the body shop, it doesn't need to go to the dealership for this, just simply not worth it. You should be able to get the rotors and pads replace at this price point or adding a little more.

Many years ago I brought my 2003 TL Type-S with 65K miles to a local dealer because it had faded black door panels. I didn't purchase the vehicle from the dealer nor did I have them do oil changes (I did them myself). Only thing done at the dealership was two brake jobs (before I started doing them myself). They saw the car twice over 65K miles. But the service advisor said, "we'll swap our the panels as a courtesy because you get your service done here." Hahaha...I'll take it. Man I loved that car.
