10 PSI drop

This past Saturday night, I had my dad take the X to enjoy the night with some friends, and while coming back home on the Expressway (Florida has way too many toll roads), the X hit something that dropped 10 PSI on the front right tire. Yesterday, I was able to take it back to DT after tightening the Valve stem nut and filling it up back to 35 PSI. The techs there told me a nail got into the tire and they had to rebuild the valve stem. What I don't understand is how could a nail, that didn't go deep inside the tire could loosen up the valve stem nut?

I wonder if the valve stem nut was already loose and getting the nail issue resolved was a "two birds with one stone" thing? Did they check the other valve stems just in case?

Yes, they did check the other valve stems too, since I requested them to put equal tire pressures on all tires (talk about each tire being 1 PSI higher than the other). If the valve stem nut was loose the whole time, I am pretty sure Honda would have told me that while I was paying for an alignment.

Yup! I literally watch them pull the MDX into the bay, watched them lift it up, and watched them check EVERY SINGLE TIRE, watched them take the tire in question off the vehicle, watched them fix it up and put it back on the MDX. .

with that level of detail, you could check your tire pressure yourself

???

watching them perform the work, doesnt guarantee some one made a mistake...instead of trying to find the culprit, do what thoiboi suggested and always recheck people's work

I do check my tire pressures frequently, as I have an analog tire pressure gauge in the glove box. .

And where are you getting service where they allow you to watch? Although I guess it is possible if the garage is accessible and you just hang out to watch what they are doing.

I know at Discount Tires, I can see my vehicle from the lobby window or I can stand outside of the work bay while they work. Occasionally in a blue moon, Discount tires does make mistakes like over TQ lugs, forgetting to put the valve stem covers back on, or forgetting to put my wheel lock keys back in the car, or putting the wrong PSI after service. Got in the habit of double-checking before I leave (or checking the lug tq with my tq wrench when I get home).

I guess when I think service, I am thinking dealerships, where the only time I have seen the service bay is during the sales process when they want to show you around. At least they did when I bought a Lexus. You are right about being able to watch at Discount, etc. Either from outside or through the windows in the lobby.

Some dealerships allow customers to see their vehicles getting worked on. I know the local Honda and Nissan dealerships allows that, and they even allowed me in the bay once in a while (if they claim something is broken or needs to be replaced). For the Lexus dealerships, I believe its to show us that their service bay is super clean and neat and they just want to show it off.
