Loose shrader valve..

Hi guys,

I took my 2007 TSX into Honda today to get a B-1 service done on it. Anyway, once the car was done, I went out to lunch with my fiance. Upon coming back to my car, I noticed the TPMS light pop on, and saw that one of my rear tires was really low on air.

Anyway, I grabbed the air compressor and attempted to re-inflate the tire, however, when I took off the valve stem cap, my tire started deflating rapidly. I immediately called Honda, and managed to put enough air back into the tire to make it back to the dealership. At the dealership, they ended up re-tightening the shrader valve.

Here's my question. What would cause the shrader valve to become loose in the first place? Should I invest in a tool to tighten it? Is this a common issues with tires?

Thanks much!

There's no good reason for the valve core to be loose (which is what was loose by the way, Schrader is a type of valve. The whole thing is commonly referred to as a valve stem, though the valve stem is actually just the outer part. Presta is another type of valve used on bicycles). Now that you know way more than you probably want to about valves, I'd guess that somehow the valve core was was loosened when they rotated the tires (part of a B service) and the pressures were adjusted. No it's not common, and yes it wouldn't hurt to get one of those little thingies that you use to tighten the core. And if you do, again it wouldn't hurt if you checked all of the other valve cores too.
