USB for Music

Hi all. I am using a USB to listen to my music collection in my TSX Tech Wagon. (Loving it!!) In the manual it seems to indicate the system is capable of handling sub-folder views but all it displays is the album title folder and the songs within it. The USB actually is organized by artist/album/song. Is there any way to get it to display in that same hierarchy or does it only have the capability of 1 level?

(If you are wondering why I am not using an iPod, it just doesn't seem to work consistently. Half the time I try to use it, I get a message that it does not recognize it. With the USB I can just leave it plugged in and forget about it, so that seems to be a better option).

Thank you!
JC

I find the the ipod easier to work with...if it's not recognized, then press the play button on the ipod and it should resume functionality. I can't get into sub folders easily with the usb + no playlists. Sorry I'm not of help.

Can you just leave the iPod connected all the time or does it drain power from the car battery if it is connected? Does it charge the iPod while it is plugged in? I just don't want to be troubled having to disconnect/reconnect every time I am getting in and out of the car, hence the use of the USB. (Especially since I have so much trouble getting it to recognize it). I try pressing play, turning the iPod on/off, etc. Eventually it ends up working but it is always a struggle.

Thanks, JC

Depends on the phone, but most cannot. My friends original Motorola DROID worked but he upgraded to a RAZR Maxx and has said it doesn't work anymore. Based on what I know about Android, it has to do with the mode the phone goes into when connected to a USB port. There is no way around this so you're better off using a USB.

As for the OP, I have the same problem but at least it's all in alphabetical order band wise. I have my folders set up like this:

Linkin Park < A Thousand Suns, Hybrid Theory, Hybrid Theory EP, etc.

But on the unit itself, Linkin Park doesn't show but every album shows in the proper order. It sure helps to know the name of the band and their albums.

If you have an android phone, don't you just set it to usb drive mode and then you can play your music like any other usb device? That's what I read...

That doesn't work anymore. It used to but on newer phones it doesn't trigger in a cars USB port.

You can play your Droid over the Bluetooth connection. Works pretty good but basically just toggle through songs with no real listing of songs or artists...

That would work perfectly and I've even notice anything sound related on the Droid phones will play through the cars bluetooth system. This includes but not limited to: SiriusXM, Pandora, YouTube, DailyMotion and any other audio or video application. Of course, this isn't magic here so it's sound only but cool either way.
