NOT my week .. two accidents.

Well, the title says it all.

Last week I was rear ended on the highway. Not that much damage, but enough to give a sh!t.

This week, well this morning, I am driving to work on 78 and I see something (I don't know what) flying towards my windshield. I swerve, and it hits my passanger side. BAM. When I get to work, I see this:

It kind of looked like a metal box, I assume from a truck. There were a million trucks on the highway and there was no way to see which truck it was coming from. But of course it had to hit MY car, not any of the other ones. Of course.

Anyone have experience with things flying off of trucks on the highway? I know I can't really do anything about it since a) I don't know which truck it was and b) I didn't stop.

Well, so much for Honda Day this year ...

oh man bad luck.
i'd get an estimate from a reputable body shop first, then see if its worth going through insurance...depending on your deductible.

as for the rear end...wtf. does that mean you're getting a new bumper?

didn't you work like 2 miles from your house? this happened in that 2 miles?

I can't go through insurance...

A year and a half ago when I had my accord I let my friend drive my car because I drank too much. She wound up running over a lamp-post, taking off my oil pan, and seizing my engine.. Thankfully, no one was hurt and no police report was generated. I had to tell my insurance company that I was driving the car, or they would not have covered the accident and the damage was over $7,000. Because of that, I am now considered a "risk." I can't go on my own policy without being labeled as a "risk" with a really high premium unless I remain claim free for 3 years. Also, my deductible is $500. I pray it's not much more than that to fix..

It's crazy. I have been driving for seven years now. And I have had about 5-6 insurance claims. NONE of them were my fault. Not one. In fact, most were from damage when my car was parked. My insurance company must think that I am the worst driver.

So yeah, reporting to insurance will hurt me more than help me.

Regarding the body shop -- I am not worried. I LOVE my body shop guy. "Stan the man" in Somerville. He has worked wonders on my Accord before. I was excited at first when I was rear-ended because I knew he would touch up scrapes that were on my car when I bought it at no cost to me. But then this happens....

And mrstak.. I work 27 miles from my house, all highway. =\. I do not think I will need a new rear bumper. There are a lot of little scratches all over it, and a hole from her license plate. And her license plate is embedded in my paint, lol. I'll see what the body shop says. I am going today at 12:00.

if none were your fault, you cant be deemed a high risk driver, as none were your fault.
I'd take a closer look at your insurance small print.

after all, I pay them good money to insure me. I'm sure you do the same.

its really odd that your insurance deems you a high risk when none of the accidents were your fault. in the situation with your friend driving and running over a lamp post, it sucks that it happened cuz even though you weren't driving, it's on your insurance record. hmm tough.

what's happening with your rear bumper then? i hope the other person is paying for it.

i must've confused you with someone else who works 2 miles from their house. hahah

^^

When I said none were my fault, I meant technically speaking.

Like I said, the one accident with all that damage was not technically my fault because I was not driving. (And if I was I wouldn't have hit that huge thing. My friend is the worst driver.) For insurance purposes, I had to say it was my fault, even though I wasn't driving. Or, they would have covered $0.

Regarding the rear bumper -- it takes 7-10 business days to generate the police report. So once that is done, I will call the insurance company to call her insurance company, work out the car rental, and get it all fixed in one shot.

When I was around 21 I was dropped from my insurance for getting hit head on by an uninsured driver. Had to pay high risk insurance for years becuase of this.

Sorry to hear about your situation. It sucks.

Technically the bar was shut down two hours early due to a power outage, so technically otherwise I would have had an extra two hours to sober up. Would you rather I drove drunk in that situation? I'm pretty sure I'm not asking for your opinion on whether or not I made the right choice letting a sober person drive my car. So take your perspective elsewhere.

Technically, you wouldn't be in the best of moods if you had your car hit twice in a four day time frame.

Especially if the biggest car meet of the year is in three weeks.

So excuse me if I am a little short.

Because you're one of the only girls on here.

Kait, I was involved in an accident where someone hit my rear bumper while they were backing up and I was driving through the parking lot. Their insurance covered the cost of a brand new primered bumper then the cost of painting it when the scratches were only to the paint, and only on one side of my bumper. Chances are with a hole, you'll get a new bumper. Might as well upgrade to the aero.

As for the hood and fender, that one might be a doozy to the wallet. A couple weeks after getting my car, an 18-wheeler's tire blew out in front of me and strangled my lower grille. Luckily, nothing else. But no one covered that, I had to pay out of pocket for that one.

And side note, although you are the only girl with a TSX on these forums, apparently there's a lot cuz everytime I post a pic of my car on instagram with tags, decent looking girls driving a TSX who mod their TSX like the photo...why aren't they all joining azine too )':

This is the thing. I would love the aero bumper, but I think it would be better financially speaking to just let the body shop do what he has to do. That way, he can place the order and rape the insurance company a little bit here and there and he will hook me up with the fender/hood. Otherwise, I will buy an already painted bumper (which will be more anyway) and then I will get no hookup. Definitely don't have the money for that now.

He wasn't at the body shop when I stopped by but his assistant suggested just trying to touch up the hood portion. It isn't dented at all, just paint missing obviously. But, I dont know that a touch up is possible and I feel like it'll chip again. I want it to look brand spankin' new afterwards. So yeah, I am worried. But I am more worried about the fender =\

I have taken my cars to him a total of 4 times now for body work so I know he will take care of me.

Haha -- funny. Yes, women should do those things. They should also get a job too. I'm going to be the breadwinner in my house, and then Ed is going to hep me with those things . (Well, maybe not the bathroom. Men CANNOT clean. Sorry. You don't have the cleaning gene.)

Sorry about the whole situation. Hope you get it resolved smoothly and quickly.

I have to say, though, I resent the comment about men not being able to clean. I'm OCD and I clean better than my wife ever could. Look at the picture threads of my car, then imagine me applying that to the toilet, kitchen counter, etc. Yeah, I'm a pretty awesome husband.

Hi all.

Update it is fixed, and looks better than the day I bought it. Literally. Because when I bought it, there were some scratches all over the front bumper which my guy took out for free.

Regarding someones question about why my friend's insurance didn't cover it -- well, hah, she didn't have insurance! Go figure...Didn't know that either. (Who doesn't have insurance?!)

The total out of pocket was $400, but if it wasn't for the paint that the one girls insurance company paid for, it would have probably been double. So, all in all happy.

But..

My car has now failed the oil consumption test at Acura and my engine is soon to be ripped apart.

-.-

On another note, we just bought a 2010 White SH-AWD 6spd. Sex. It is just sex. I wish it was mine (but it's his).

So sexy.
