Has anyone else experienced this problem before? I'm also out of warranty

It could be your VTC actuator. Does it happen all the time? Are you under 70k miles?

There is a known problem with VTC actuators. Faulty units will drain of oil when the car is off, and thus the grinding. If you happen to be under 70k for powertrain a dealer will replace it free of charge.

Mine does this occasionally. It is the VTC actuator i think. There is a TSB for this, but my dealer refuses to do it for me.

I had this problem for two years. Every time the car would be at the dealer I would leave it overnight before service and they would start it in the morning with no noise. One time the car was in for service the car finally made the grinding noise on cold start. Dealer replaced the VTC actuator and I have had no problems since.

Does it do it after oil change with fresh oil or all the time?

I have the same EXACT thing going on with my car! I'm still within the power train warranty and it will be due for its annual state inspection soon, so I will mention it when it is at the dealership next.

VTC actuator for sure. I just replaced mine and it went away. Ordered the part online and had the local honda guru install it. Problem solved.

Same here However, It's doing it again. I had the ATC actuator replaced at 44k miles (under warranty) and it's doing the same thing again at 115k miles. SMH
