Noisey Engine is scaring me!
Noisey Engine is scaring me!
Hey Guys.
Just hit 55k miles on my 2010 automatic. It seemed like it was making a little bit a noise and it was about 6k since my last oil change so I figured I would change it and see if it helped at all.
I put in 5-20w Penzoil Platinum filled it between the dots and started the car. Didnt seem to do anything to the sound so it wasnt low/old oil related.
But today I decided to open the hood and listen closer. It is much louder under the hood then in the driver seat. Driver seat isnt noticeable at all with music on but I constantly listen for sounds in my car so I began to notice it.
Video is on youtube here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtdTI...ature=youtu.be
Any ideas? I was thinking it was just belt related and the belt makes a scratchy type of sound. But there is the clickier sound coming from the opposite side of the belt.
I've read around and I've heard timing belt, torque converter, and normal. If it is normal I wonder if the previous owner / dealer wasnt using 5w-20 and was using something thicker that muddled the sound (read that somewhere too)
Help!
Thanks all.

Not sure if its just me but there's no sound in that video.
Anyways my friend's engine made a really loud noise and we didn't know what it was but it turned out to be the power steering fluid so check there.

Thanks. I assume you mean nothing sounding out of the ordinary to you? Not that the video has no sound.
The engine seems a little "scratchier" after the oil change is all. The oil is at the top dot so I don't want that to be the issue.
Temps are ok, no lights on in the dash. I assume if there was a serious issue with the oil a light would come on before damaging anything.

it went away on its own though. I still have no idea what the noise was. Dealer said it was normal operation....

From what I read, it is possible the dealership put thicker oil in to reduce the noise so I would buy it. But now that i put proper 5w-20 in it is a little louder.
Oh and NO Thanks to power steering fluid jokers! I might be a paranoid car owner but not falling for that one. I've been on these forums a lot since owning the my TSX.
