Need to replace the engine in my 09, need to verify a few things

Hello guys. Looooong story short we need to put a different engine into the TSX. We were hoping to trade the car in but this came up, so we decided to put in a different engine before trading it. Dealer wants 8k to swap in a short block, so that's not happening. Looking for low milage engines, I have been told the 09-10 engines run 5w20 and the 2011-2012 run 0w-20 and putting a 2012 into the car could cause issues. Can anyone verify this for me?

Jesse

and you can always head to Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

enter in the required info; make, model, year, what part you need and area code.

and the results will spit out junk yards that are close to you with the part you need.

I bought a used TL engine this way.

Car failed the oil consumption test at 17qts of used oil over 6k miles. When they went to take the engine down they discovered the engine was not original and came from a totaled TSX. So it is not covered by Acura's recall. Now it's my bill. I didn't hesitate to run the 2012 in the 2009 until an Acura Mastertech at the dealer mentioned the oil weight discrepancy. I was like, sh1t! So I am just double/triple checking before we get in there and realize they are different.

I used Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market and I bought a used TL engine from one of the junk yards that was listed in the results...

i bought the engine for $650.

Do the same exact thing for the TSX.

Browse car-part.com until you find a used engine that meets your requirements near you

Mechanically, I do not know of any differences. But the ECU's between the two years are different (software, protocol etc..) I don't know if you would throw any errors because of this. I guess you could also replace the ECM/PCM with 2012 and it should be ok.

and then there are the wiring issues between tech and non-tech.

The easiest swap would be the same year and tech level. Swapping ECUs will always cause issues.

But - if the problem is merely oil consumption and you are trading the car then why swap engines? Just disclose the issue and take the small hit on resale.

Why not just do the TSB steps? Seems like the least expensive option?
