Lamin X Film

Just got a damn chip in my foglights and going to be replacing the foglight. From expeirance from people that have used Lamin X to protect their fogs, what would you recommend to get in thickness, 20 mil or 40 mil?

40 mil seems a little thick and im worried for when I cut it out of the sheet and install it since the 09 TSX fogs have a little bit of a curve that I would be able to get it on right without creases or what not.

Would 20mil be good enough to protect from rocks and loose gravel and prevent it from chipping/cracking the lense?

Hmmmm. I bought LaminX for my ilx fogs and never found any options for different thickness.
I searched your car and found not indication of thickness still...

http://www.lamin-x.com/Acura-TSX-Sed...rs-p/ac115.htm

That link is to some precut laminx fog covers for the 09 tsx. You just pick the color you want, not thickness.

This is what I did, except I purchased from Amazon since I have Amazon Prime 2 day shipping. I never picked the thickness just the color. Precut to my size and fit pretty good. They were VERY flexible so I dont think you will have any issues getting it to stick to a curve or bend.

Yea I noticed that they thickness with the precuts come at 12 mil, but I wasn't sure if that was going to be thick enough to protect from rocks and stuff as I already have replaced both of my foglights due to rock chips. I was going to by a 8"x16" which I can get in the different thickness and cut it out.

How is the precut ones working out for you? How long have you had them for?

Precut, 15 bucks.
Seems like that's the best bet unless the sheet is cheaper.

I have a rock chip or two on the painted surface. I applied laminx within the first couple months of ownership. I've had them for over a year and a half. Fog lights still look like the day I picked the car up.

XPEL headlight film is 30 mil....I've cut it myself....no issues for the fogs.

Actually I put a piece over a fog with a small chip/hole in it....been like that for 2 years.

you should use some heat. 11+ is a curved lens so its a must. not a lot of heat. a blow drier is fine. a heat gun on LOW. you just want to warm it a bit.

i have done it with the fog in my hand which is easier. especially on the 11+ where the lens is smaller than the opening. but on my current ones I, the TRS led fogs, i bought a small sheet of the 40mil and cut my own circle. I was lazy and did this with the fogs mounted. to cut the film, first I measured the opening and figured a bit larger, then i used the same caliper to draw a circle on the plastic while protecting where the point rested. cut with good scissor.

the laminx precut is just big enough to do with bumper on.

Just an update. I bought the 40mil Lamin X and I think it was the best decision I could make! It was a little bit of work to install but i managed to do it and I am happy with the final product.

I only installed the main front piece and yes it's a pain...sadly mine didn't really clear up 100%...disappointed in the Xpel. The stuff I applied on my wife's A5 looks flawless.
