Drivers side carpet issue?

Drivers side carpet issue?
has anyone had problems with the carpet on the drivers side of the car? My carpet ripped within the first 6 mos I owned my '09 TSX. It was on the right side, right where the floor mat meets the carpet. I noticed the carpet did not lie flush against the floor board - you could push the carpet and feel a gap. It looked to me like the carpet was cut too short or stretched too tight and pressure from your feet or the floor mat tore the carpet. Initially, the dealer would not replace the carpet under warranty - they said i put my foot (high heel) through it. Isn't that where your feet are supposed to go? Should you not be able to put your feet on the floor to drive? After much complaining and a visit with the local GM, they agreed to pay 75%. Still a very expensive repair. My worry is that even after being replaced, the carpet does not lay flat against the floorboard and I'm afraid with the continued pressure of my feet from driving, it will tear again. Anyone else notice this?

Are you talking about the area immediately surrounding the gas pedal? There is a piece of black plastic pad there.
I have the all weather mat and after a year of usage, drove a hole through the plastic mat with my heel (dress shoes during the week and runners on weekends), but luckily no damage to the carpet underneath. Do you have any floor mats, if not, try invest a set of weathertech ones.

The dealer will say anything to get out of doing a costly (to them) repair. You did not do anything wrong, it's not like you're pounding your heel into the carpet when you drive.
I mostly wear sneakers when I drive but I can envision high heels or dress shoes with a wooden heel straining the carpet more. Still, that should not rip the carpet!!

^You would be surprised the amount of wear you can put on with regular dress shoes. I had the standard carpeted mat that came with the car for only two months before buying the all weather mat, but it already has a large dented spot where I rest my heel while driving.
Wished my company allows sneakers as an acceptable business attire.

Welcome to the forums! And sorry about your problem. I actually think I've noticed some minor surface damage on the OEM weather mats, but nothing major. But then again all i wear are sneakers and slippers, occasionally dress shoes. Now I'm gonna be nervous leaving my foot on my mats! lol
