Drive Belt and Water Pump Help

Went to my dealer last week to get a tire replaced and after it was done, the service guy told me I needed new water pump and drive belt. Also quoted a price of $575+ tax. I have a friend that's a mechanic that would do it for me but I haven't been able to get in touch lately. I was wondering if somebody in or near South Carolina could help me out with replacing them. Would like to get it done ASAP. And I kinda weary about doing myself. Thanks.

whats your mileage? theres other things to do, like timing belt, tensioner, radiator cap, coolant flush etc.

90,000 miles. The dealer didn't mention anything else but if its a good idea to get it all done at the same time I don't mind.

Why do you need a new water pump? Is it leaking? Pump making noise? Pulley loose? Car running hot? Why do you need a new drive belt? Is it dried/cracked or squeaking?

They are just trying to make some money on you IMO, no need for those items to be replaced so early in life.

I call

Unless the water pump is giving you problems, just put a new belt on if needed. I am sure it's not more than $40 for the belt.

It's relatively common to replace the water pump at 90K miles when replacing a timing belt, but not a drive belt.

exactly. It's a while we're in there kind of thing. If you do a timing belt on a car and don't do the WP and the WP goes later, they still have to do the timing belt again.

But as someone else said, these are chain driven and i would not replace the WP until there is an issue.

when I went to the local acura dealer to get my car inspected in 2012 they suggested the drive belt, water pump, etc should be changed with the mileage I had on the car. Since that time I have been to a honda and another acura dealer. They both told me the belt was in great shape and no need to have it changed. They also said no need to change the water pump. My car now has 152K+miles.

These Honda drive belts seriously last forever without cracking or making noise. Check the insulation on the hood to see if its stained from coolant being flinged around. It will appear brown in color and be running up and down closer to the passenger side of the hood

i agree with everyone else unless the belts/ water pump are making noise i wouldnt replace them. an easy way to check your coolant is just buy buying one of those 10$ coolant testers and a ph kit from your local auto parts store. if youd like i could give you basic instructions on how to do the water pump your self.
