B1 service from a local mechanic

If I get my TSX serviced from a local mechanic, will it void my warranty? B1 is due soon.

Acura dealership is too expensive ... that is why I ask.

Thanks.

B1 is an oil change and a tire rotation. if you ask the dealer how much a B1 will cost it'll be close to $200 i bet. if you ask the dealer how much an oil change and a tire rotation it will be closer to $70 (for regular dino). How much is your indy guy charging?

and no it won't void your warranty. keep your records and receipts in order and you'll be fine.

Thanks TLtrigril! B1 price quoted to me by the dealer was $240. I called about the oil change and it was $74. I will ask them to include tire rotation.

The local mechanic is charging $80 for everything - whatever is included in the B1 service and he will let me see while he is working on the car ... I mean it is a big garage. He said I could buy the oil from Acura, if I wished and he would use that. Much cheaper ... but I was concerned that it might impact my warranty. Thanks again for clearing that.

i hope that quote for the oil change was for synthetic or you live in canada. in that case you're better off buying your own oil from the local auto parts store of your choice and a filter. take it to the mechanic and pay for the labor.

It wont void your warranty.

However to be fair there is also an inspection done, and the dealer will check for any codes your independent guy may not bother. I grant you that the inspection and code check may take an extra 5 minutes and that may not be worth 100 bucks to you. I believe Honda uses a synth/regular blend for oil now.

B1 has all the following:

* Replace engine oil and filter.
* Rotate tires, inspect for wear and adjust pressure
* Service front and rear brakes.
* Inspect parking brake adjustments.
* Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
* Inspect suspension components.
* Inspect driveshaft boots.
* Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS)
* Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids and check for leaks.
* Inspect exhaust system.
* Inspect fuel lines and connections.

I will ask the local mechanic to do all these. Since I can view what he is doing, I can also be sure that he actually is doing something! As opposed to the Dealer, where I can't say if they actually would do it.

Thanks!
