2012 goes dead

I have a new 2012 TSX wagon with the tech package. I love it but I'm having a serious problem.

My car simply looks/acts dead. This happens when I unlock it as well as when it's already unlocked. At first all the lights will come on. Then suddenly the car is dead. No lights. No ability to start of course. The remote seems to be operating since I see the red light. After I fiddle with the remote, by pressing the lock or unlock button, all's well. Tonight however, it took a lot of tries including getting out of the car and pressing the buttons, as well as pressing them in the car. This problem has been intermittent, but happened twice today. So I will have to get it to the dealers ASAP. Needless to say, I can't afford to be stranded.

Has anyone else encountered this situation? Any thoughts on what it could be?

sometimes, when a car feels threaten, it will play dead to drive away the predators.

on a more serious note, get that to the dealer asap, definitely not normal. the only times i've experienced something similar is my battery dying, but even then the experience was a little different.

good luck!

Do you have one of those dealer installed aftermarket alarm systems? Did you ever have to jump start it?

No alarm system. But I am wondering about something. My car came from an upstate NY dealer. After I got it, I read the papers about it and saw that the car had been delivered to the upstate dealer at the end of April. So was the car just sitting on a lot not being started?

Actually, if I had know that piece of the car's history, I would have refused it. If the problem is caused by the car's inactivity, I'm worried about what other problems it may have caused.

I don't believe that inactivity of the car has anything to do with it. Worst case would be a battery replacement.
I would take it to the dealer and see what they say...

sounds like a battery issue.
either battery is losing its charge

or like some one mentioned a cable is loose
if the latter; i can cause intermittent problems like described

Should I assume that if it's the battery. That they'll be responsible for replacing it ?

^yes, batteries are covered under warranty.
only; it'll get replaced with the same crappy oem battery.

I think you should physically check for a loose battery terminal connection. you could solve your problems without even stepping foot in a dealer

Yup. It was a loose cable. I did go to the dealer got a big apology and a free car wash. I guess checking cables wasn't part of dealer prep.

i put a sticky on my windshield

"DO NOT WASH OR TOP FLUIDS"

I also tell my service advisor when i arrive.

i have also gone so far as putting another sticky on my windshield washer fluid. I have fitted a custom engraved cap and it has a set screw. I been to the dealer ONCE and they just YANKED it off.
so I mark that one too.

washes

So, besides washing the car myself, which I'm not doing in 25 degree weather, what should I look for or avoid in a car wash. Winter/snow/road melt/sand are things I have to get off my car.

Lol. I get this strange look from my service advisor everytime I say 'no wash please' as if I was giving them a warning that I'm a bit anal about my car.
