2011 TSX Sedan Drive Door Noise

Does anybody else have any issues with their 2011 TSX Sedan driver door making noise around the perimeter of it? The best way to describe it is that the weatherstripping seems to be rubbing up against something on the door right near my left ear. It happens at most speeds but is most noticable at highway speeds on the broken concrete pavement out here in SoCal. I've had it looked at twice by the dealer and both times they claim they haven't duplicated or that they "think" they heard something (which you would have to deaf to not hear) and they simply lubricated the seals and said all fixed. I've tried to figure out what is rubbing on my own but have been unsuccessful thusfar. I did see someone with the 2011 wagon having an issue with something in the headliner but my sound doesn't seem to be coming from that high up (although I know sound can sound like its coming from a completely different place sometimes)...any ideas?

Is it possible the noise is coming from the moon roof. I've had this problem on two Acuras and a Honda. It is a common problem and they can fix it with teflon tape. I would have them do this anyway and they should do it for nothing. It might do the trick.

I have had noise coming from my driver door but it is more like a rattle and if I crack open the window and close it up again it will go away.

Unfortunately, unless there is a Service Bulletin, you usually have to solve these kinds of problems on your own. At least finding the origin of the noise, before the dealer can help. Listen closely while someone else drives.

Update...well the new seals didn't work...this noise is driving me crazy as I can hear it even over the radio because its right near my left ear...plus, my ipod now skips more and more...if they can't track down the source of a rattle, i have no chance of them figuring out the ipod issue...oh well...good thing I actually like driving this car!

Similar thing with my car. It got so annoying the other day that I pulled over into a parking lot and took the door apart to see where I could find the source of the sound. Have you tried driving with the door slightly opened? The sound disappeared when I did that so I did some more problem solving and sprayed some wd40 around the door latch. So far, that fixed it!!! I can't believe how annoying it was though so I understand your frustration.

Try slightly opening the window. This will remove some pressure from the upper door frame. See if this make the noise go away.

on another car, I had a similar noise and I ended up *slightly* adjusting the door striker, which resolved the problem.

You may also want to try to spray silicone on the rubber seals all around the door and see if this solved he problem.

Other areas to check is the B pillar.

Thanks for the tips! Tried this this morning with no luck unfortunately...also tried cracking the window slightly as another poster suggested and that did not stop the noise...guess I'll see what they can do this time...

on my 2010 tsx, I had a ticking noise that I finally found to be coming from the B pillar. The solution was a suite of lubing the welded pieces of the B-pillar with sprayed grease and bending the outer metal B-pillar panel with a screwdriver inserted in one of the holes.

My dealership fixed my exact same issue over the weekend. I've been driving it around and it's stayed fix. The problem is in the A pillar (between windshield and the driver side window). They took it apart and found loose wiring and insulation inside it. Adding foam and securing it fixed it. Hope this helps others steer their dealers towards it.

It didn't seem they were going by any TSB; they could replicate it, they took the weekend to find it and fix it on warranty. Customer service attitude is terrific at this place, glad I have them.

Mine is currently there now and they are attempting fix #3...told them I don't want it back until they are confident it is fixed for good...if this doesn't work then I will definitely tell them about the loose wire issue as I've heard this from someone else too you guys might be on to something...

Have you pulled the grab handle above the driver's side window down to see if that stops the noise? I have a 2011 TSX Sport Wagon and it is the handle that is making the noise. If I pull the handle down and hold it the noise goes away. I haven't had a chance to take it to the dealer yet.

Confirmed: Fix Attempt #3 unsuccessful. They had the car for 5 days, ordered new outer weatherstripping (they already replaced the inner weatherstripping last time) and it came back about 30 min of driving later. They opened a case with Acura Techline apparently and they have suggested a few ideas for further fixes (1. window tint...which can't be that as the noise began before I had it tinted, and 2. Replace front window glass)...didn't think an annoying noise would come to this but I'll let them do their best to figure it out. At least the service department has been absolutely awesome about everything. I'm off to schedule visit number four...to be continued...

1) If you are sure that the noise originates from the driver's door edge near your left ear: try silicone spray between the plastic trim that is installed over the door metal frame near, where the window closes. Make sure to also spay between the upper window run channel and the door frame. Just pull some of the rubber and insert the spray tip in there. Wipe out any overspray.

2) Replacement of front window glass?? Could actually be the windshield molding, which is clipped on to the outside of the A-pillars. It is plastic and painted to match the car's color. Try inserting a 1/2 mm thick piece of cardboard between the windshield and the molding (push the cardboard to go right under the rubber towards the edges of the glass, hidden under the molding.

I'm going with the grab handle theory, or possibly the headliner. My 2011 just started doing it, if I get fed up enough I'll find a fix for it...

I think this may be the winner (or is at least somehow related). The noise goes away almost completely when I pull the handle down all the way so it must be either the handle itself or something in the headliner near where this thing is installed. Going back in Monday to let them try for the fourth time to fix it. Hopefully this information will help them pinpoint it and correct it.

Thanks for all of the helpful suggestions to everyone!

They replaced the overhead handle which reduced the noise for about a day but then the noise is back as before. I can even make it quieter by grabbing the handle as I did before they replaced it. There's got to be something in that area (behind headliner?) that is causing it. There is also a distinct noise coming from the seal around the window. This is the one they said that Acura told them they would have to replace the glass to check (they think its tint even though the noise existed and was pointed out to them prior to purchase)...car now has 4,500 miles on it, is 5 months old and has been in and out of service several times trying to fix things. Add that to the electrical gremlins that are starting to pop up (see NAV posts in other threads) and I'm not a happy camper. I love the car otherwise (fun to drive, good mileage, etc...) but I'm slowly losing my patience. I've never had a car with so many problems so soon.

Ok, rant over.

My driver's grab handle was making a noise, but it was fairly obvious that the noise was coming from the handle itself. When retracted, the handle has two hard plastic surfaces that touch together, resulting in a faint clicking noise.

I put a couple of those round, self-stick rubber cushions (like this - link) between the hard surfaces on each side of the handle and the noise went away.

Maybe that will help you.

Unfortunate update (again)...

Car is now back in for the 4th time on this issue (and AC/radio screen blackout issue as well) and has been at dealer for over a week this time. Curious what they will say it is this time...I just want enjoy a nice quiet car already! Is that so much to ask for a brand new car with only 5,000 miles on it? Jeez...

08/03/11 Update:

I realize I may be the only one who cares about this issue on my car but I have no where else to vent so here goes...

Today marks Day 17 (consecutively) that they have had the car going after this noise. They are apparently in constant touch with Acura Techline trying to track down different potential causes. They are being great about everything (customer service wise) and keep updating but every couple of days the update is "they think they have it but want to test it one more time"...and then they hear it again the next day and several more days go by...I just received this call again this afternoon that they think they fixed it and will do another test tomorrow to make sure so its looking like (fingers crossed) they might have it taken care of and I can pick it up on Friday (which will be Day 19!). Yikes! Time will tell though...

Ok, venting is over...I've loved putting miles on someone else's car since July 18th and all but I also wouldnt mind having my brand new car back that I'm paying for!

It is useful to report here what they found and how they fixed it... This can be used by fellow Acuraziners to address similar issues with their car :-) (or to tell their dealer how to fix a particular issue! )

UPDATE:

So I picked up my car finally after 22 DAYS out of service. They put 135 miles on it trying to track down the noise and replaced another door seal and all of the clips holding the interior panel onto the door. The short drive to work was quiet but thats how it was after the last couple of times they fixed it (quiet at first but then noise comes back). For the record, in the 5 1/2 months and 5,300 miles I've had this 2011 TSX, it has spent about 35 DAYS in service for this ongoing noise issue, and nav issue (screen replaced, intermittent lower screen black out, ipod skipping). Hopefully I can finally put this thread to bed so my fingers are crossed. Thanks for all of the helpful suggestions from everyone who has contributed.

In for what they fixed because I hear a noise from my grab handle too... I think mine is on the passenger side though...

Noticed a similar noise with all the grab handles right after I bought the car. I placed a small self-stick pad on the inside of each handle opening (two for each handle). It's hard to describe, but the handles rattle against the part the is mounted on the headliner. Solved the problem and you can't even see the fix.

The short answer is no...my vehicle has now been out of service for a total of 45 Days since it was picked up in February 2011 while they worked on this issue (with the guidance of Acura Techline along the way) and a couple of others...thinking of contacting a Lemon Law attorney about the possiblity of having them take it back...although this isn't a safety issue, it has certainly turned into a loss of use and potential resale value hit (due to long service record history that any potential buyer would see...if I was looking into buying a vehicle, I'd run away from one with the service history mine now unfortunately has)...

Anybody have any recommendations for Lemon Law lawyers other than those on a highway billboard?

door noise

i just got the 2011, and after a month i started noticing the noise, in my car its the front passenger door thats making the noise, but sounds exactly what u described, like a metal clicking noise and soooo irritating, I wish i never got the tsx and will never get one again!! Now to read the rest of the threads and see if there is anyways to fix it (besides taking off the door and driving without one)...

I'm having a "buzzing" or fluttering sound coming from the driver's side window (in my left ear) on 2011 TSX Sport Wagon. I did have the windows tinted. I am going to bring it in and have them try and fix it. With all the people I see have had problems, Acura must have gotten better at fixing this issue.

Holy Cow! I just heard this noise on my 4 day old TSX Wagon and it was a "clicking" from the handle as well. I may try some thin felt pads first. Where exactly did you tape the pads? Thanks so much for this post and thread.

UPDATE...FIXED!!!

Well. That didn't take too long. I found some old felt disks I had bought way back to keep my hardwood floors from scratches and went outside to the car and found exactly where to stick them. You simply pull the handle down like you are using them and then adhere them to the "inside edge" of the little "cup" opening. You really CAN'T see the disks so you can go so far as to stick a piece of cloth with double stock tape if you chose to. But it was a bear getting my fingers into the "cup" opening to put the felt properly at the edges. I then took the wagon for a drive onto some streets that had plenty of poorly patched areas and the ticking was gone. Awesome! I saved a trip to the dealer.
