2,400 miles, brakes are already squealing.

i bought the car knowing that it had some problems with the brakes, but i thought they would go at least ten or fifteen thousand miles....the car is barely a month old and they're already squealing (from the rear, it sounds like).

how to reproduce:

1) drive for 1/4 mile
2) apply brakes gently
3) enjoy a sound that pierces your eardrums

if i apply steady, even brake pressure, the squealing lasts for about 1 full second, and then goes away. if i brake immediately afterward, no matter how softly or hard, they don't squeal again. instead, i have to drive another ~30 seconds before they squeal again (for 1 second, and then they won't squeal again in subsequent braking).

thoughts? i guess i should take it to the dealer.

There is like 10 or 15 threads about this issue, seeing as you got 300 + post figured you'd would have read some of them..

My brakes squealed from 500 - 2000 miles then just stopped squealling, but then they warped 3 or 4 times.. Dealer blows just buy some slotted rotors for $100 for the fronts and all your head ache will go away, i promise.

but yeah, the dealer will fix this, ask them about the TSB regarding your cars brakes, and tell them you'd like to have that tsb completed asap.

yes, i read a couple of those posts. part of my initial post got cut out, i guess. i meant to also ask you guys what i could do to just say screw the dealer and fix this here and now, instead of having them replace the pads and rotors every 10k miles. what the hell are the rotors made of, plastic? from reading other threads, it seems like Acura is only concerned with replacing once under warranty, only to have the problem re-occur somewhere soon down the road. i would rather they came up with a reason why this is such a widespread problem (crappily made rotors, not enough cooling air getting to them, etc).

any recommendations on rotors? i am a total brake noob.

2010. also, i drove home from work yesterday and the brakes didn't make a peep. maybe it was temperature, or dirt/tiny rocks stuck on the pads? it was ~35 in the morning and ~60 in the evening.

i had the same problem and i thought it was a small rock or something but it got worse, i would back up and it would make a scratching noise. take it in to Acura and tell them to look at them, they should do this for free. that what i did and they replaced them for free, and asked for a rental, next day i picked it up the next day. i had my brakes done 2 in 40K

my brakes squeal for the first few applications of the brakes in the morning. It doesn't really matter what temperature the car is sitting in, because I've heard them squeal at 2 PM in 72 degree weather. So I don't know what's going on. But after about half a mile of driving, the brakes don't squeal anymore if I pressed on the brakes. I'll mention it to the service department when I bring it in for my first oil change

just got my car back from the dealer for some work. one of them was my brakes squealing. now, it did sound like the squealing came from the front brakes... the dealer applied a tsb to this. tsb 09-054 they were for the front brakes. i just have it for the night now, but i haven't heard a single squeal from them. will update in a couple of days to let y'all know if it seems to fix the problem. the fix is to apply another pad and to re-surface the front rotors...

your squealing will stop, but you will start to notice when you apply the brakes lightly your car kinda jerks forward.. as if the brakes are gripping losing grip then gripping again.. Why? Because your rotors are warped.. I went through this from 1000 to 20000 miles, untill I said fuck the dealer, and went and bought slotted rotors.. 40k miles now, and not a single squeak or issue like i described above.

also when applying the brakes in a straight line the car would pull to the left the majority of the time, unless there was a wicked slant in the road to the right.. dealer never did anything about it always told me it was the road, but when I drove there vehicles I could stop in a straight line on all the same roads... this doesn't happen anymore either, now that i lubed the calipers and replaced the rotors

wow awesome..you might be the only one on this forum that hasn't changed their pads or rotors ..but for me mine lasted about 15k before squealing and yes the rotors were warped ..

i have no more squealing now. it was about 50 degrees in the morning when i started driving. How to solve it? I don't quite know. I mentioned to the service manager about the squealing, but he said the brakes had plenty of life left. So they did the regular check up and didnt even touch the brakes really.

i noticed that they're a little more sensitive now as well. Not a bad thing really, because i can get used to it.
