So I kinda did a rough sketch of the roof spoiler. This is what I came up with. Only thing I have to choose is which way to make the contour. To curve it outwards like the top drawing, or curve it inwards so it would look like the oem spoiler. With the second drawing it would not cover the entire back window. I'm leaning towards the first drawing.

I agree, however I don't want to spend the money buying it. Didn't someone mess up their oem lip spoiler with heat gun? If I could get that and cut it up that would be even better!!

It's been a good news bad news kinda day. I realized after looking at my back window during lunch there was no way I could replicate the compound angle ( the parabola shape in the x-y direction and the convex curve in the z direction) so the foam I bought is rendered useless. Good news is, I found a foam that you can glass directly on! Bad news is that it is a spray foam. Good news is I realized a spray foam means I could exactly replicate the compound curve using this method because I can spray it directly( after taped off of course) on my back window, and when it dries the base will be perfectly flush with the window. Bad news is I can only find it at west marine. Good news is I work right next to a west marine. Bad news is I didn't buy it on the way home because I didn't realize I could use this ingenious method until I took a poop this afternoon. Bad news again... I don't work till Tuesday and the store is 45 minutes away. Good news is grades were released today, all B's in my engineering classes. And good news again, I will make a cool DIY for you guys!

oh ya the spray foam. i haz that too.
definitely the easier route. use the cardboard to shape the design and then spray that shit and let it expand. take off the cardboard and clean it up with a bread knife or file

All B's in your engineering classes?? Thats almost unheard of! It was a good semester for me if I dodged getting a C in one.

I know I was worried about dynamics man... I pulled off an 88 on my final! And thermo was pretty enjoyable, I was about B average the whole semester. Next up solid mechanics, measurements, machine design, modeling methods, fluid mechanics and EE!!

Here's my experience with those classes:
Solid mechanics: Overall a decent class, but fairly hard. I had some trouble with it, but it was probably because I took it my sophomore year and wasn't in the groove yet.
Measurements: An extremely tedious class. Spend hours in lab doing lame "experiments", then spend even more hours trying to write bs that doesnt sound like bs in your 15 page reports. For measurements 1, we didnt get graded for the information in the report, but only for formatting errors. I got way too C's on reports because 5 points would be taken off for tiny things like margin width or wrong font for header. For measurements 2, they dont care about format. You get graded on the content so most reports will take even longer.
Machine Design: One of my favorite classes. I learned quite a few basic things that actually stuck with me. Our teacher also talked a lot about real world situations.
Modeling methods: Not sure what this class would have been for me.
Fluid mechanics: One of the hardest classes I took. Our teacher was an adviser so he took it very seriously and graded hard. About 1/3 of our class failed and had to retake. I barley made it though.
EE(I'm assuming the equivalent of my class called "circuits"): Our teacher was super old and not really a good teacher in general. The homework he gave was very repetitive and took hours to do. I hardly learned anything in that class but ended up doing alright and making a B. The ONLY thing I took from that class is V=IR, which I already knew going in.
If your classes are anything like mine were, you're probably going to have a pretty challenging semester. For having a pretty good engineering program at our school, I feel we didn't have very many good teachers. I hope your school has better. It makes a huge difference if you get a good teacher for these harder classes, you learn so much more!

Yeah, we don't have that many good professors, they are few and far between. Yeah next semester is going to be pretty tough, I'm taking solids, and measurements over summer which starts in a week. Pretty much the hardest part is trying to work on top of having really difficult courses. 20hrs a week at a place thats over 30-45 minutes away does not do you anything good for your GPA

Looks like a damn whale jizzed on my back window hahaha... hope this excites everyone else! Oh and I had my first failure, I got too hasty and forgot to where nitrile gloves and this shit will not get off of my hands!
P.S. Dont worry Defcon I'm just uploading photos here and there. I'll make a complete DIY once I am done!

What kind of foam are you using? Great Stuff? I tried using Daptex instead and you cant carve it at all.
Also, this looks really weird. Do people look at you weird when you do stuff like this? I always get weird looks when I remove bumpers or do anything like that since I do all my work in my apartment parking lot.

Yeah I get weird looks ALL the time haha. I hate doing work at my APT too, I feel like they are going to mess with stuff when I'm not looking haha. But the stuff I'm using is evercoat polyurethane foam. I have already carved a little bit and its pretty easy. I got it from WestMarine, reason for choosing this over anything else: Supposedly you can glass directly over this foam without worrying about the resin eating it away. It was expensive though, $20 a can. I got about half a can left.
Confirmed~ this foam conformed perfectly to the window, came off pretty clean. Time to start shaping!!

What an ugly piece of foam!
And this is where I stopped tonight. I did a test fit and even standing less than 1in tall this thing looks massive on the back windshield. Still lots of shaping to do!

All I hear in my mind is Command & Conquer: "Engineering".
This looks to be a great DIY project, can't wait for the final results. I, too, know what you mean about doing car work in your apartment. I did it outside on the sidewalk, some people thought I had just been in an accident when I had the bumper off.

Killer is just mad cause he spent his IRS check on plastic bits and can't afford a catless exhaust coupled with a flashpro that releases this week. I'm gunna need the extra downforce from this roof spoiler after an added 20hp from the flashpro. I'll do a before and after test for you killer that way you can watch
