CTE Ice Box Installed

Well, step 1 to some engine mods. Thought yall might want to see it.

A big thanks to robpp for pointing me in the direction of the kit on ebay. Saved $100.

While there was little to zero noticeable hp increase, this baby sounds great.

Had to remove bumper. This was waayyyy easier than I thought it was going to be.

Install complete. Looks great and sounds great!

I wonder what horsepower increase is the minimum required to be noticeable?

you would need around 10hp to notice it. The icebox does nothing except noise... and you can get the exact same result by removing the factory resonator.

iCrap you need to stop spewing out this crap about all this information you know when you clearly don't. Without a dyno there is no "hard" evidence in gains but CT-E claims "Torque increase of approximately 10 ft/lbs in low and high RPM driving, as well as horsepower increase of approximately 12 hp at the wheels" in their icebox. That is more power claim than any intake you can buy for our car. It's your choice to believe if there is an actual gain or not but remember this company was our first exhaust producer and honestly told everyone that there was no gains from it and they also make our only supercharger.
IMO 10 hp is way to minimal for a increase I would say. For anything noticeable I would say 35 HP+ would be your best bet. I have so much crap invested in my car but I still feel like its stock with a bit more aggressive sounds lol. Remember our car is slow!

Well i mean... from what i've read about intake systems for the car, this is what i've found.
Where is there any proof that the icebox gives 10ft/lb and 12HP?

Without a dyno you're just going by what CTE claims.... they can claim whatever they want.

Dafuq ?!?! Why would you buy that if you were eyeballing a new car? Congrats on the new ride & keeping it in the fam but since you have money to throw away on that ice box, and can afford such a sweet ass upgrade in rides, I'm sure you wouldn't care about selling it to me for oh idk $150

Its kind of like buying jewelry for your girlfriend and then a day later you hook up with Jennifer Lawrence.

I wasn't eyeballing it until the day after I installed the kit. I didn't think I'd find the MT TSX or TL w/ tech/navi for a reasonable price.

Best come up on that price haha! New they are $470 (maybe cheaper if you look around). Make a real offer and I'll think about it

You obviously don't read as i already mentioned that in the comment you quoted... and yes you do get gains from intakes. its just minimal that what you expect. I have K&N intake and they have a dyno comparison showing a 7hp increase.

You said this:
CT-E claims Torque increase of approximately 10 ft/lbs in low and high RPM driving, as well as horsepower increase of approximately 12 hp at the wheels
CT-E can claim whatever the hell they want and so can K&N. Dosen't make it true.

I've seen the claims, and if you look around you will see that nobody is getting close to 10ft/lb of torque and 12HP at the wheels with just an intake system only on the TSX or similar (Si w/ k24).... just look at the dyno sheets people have posted.

I don't understand the point you are trying to make? Do YOU really believe this icebox will give 10ft/lb of torque and 12 HP?
Look at this and the stock airbox minus resonator. It's awfully similar aside from the cone filter...

Unless you are pushing boost from a turbo the intake wont get you 10 more Hp Or Tq. i think it has been proven before that intakes are almost just a cosmetic item now a days, unless you are building your engine

Whether or not it does or doesn't give any gains, think of it from a marketing perspective.

Different cars have different layouts of tubing that bring in air to the engine. Some are good (big piping with minimal bends) and some are terrible. If you took the intake of an old POS with horribly laid out intake piping and an extremely dirty filter, it would be hindering performance. Put in a clean filter matched with bigger piping on the intake, you may see the claims of 12+ HP being gained since the baseline case was so bad. Or they could have simply left out the part where you need to pair an exhaust +dyno with the intake to see any gains at all. To use a blanket statement and say everyone gets 12 HP is completely wrong and is solely for marketing purposes. These details are things to think about with any statement from any company.
