Cold air intake installed
Cold air intake installed
I just picked up my new intake from aFe. They are starting a new division for the tuner car market. I will release the name as soon as I'm allowed, but here are the pics.
It gave me something like 16HP and 20 ft/lb
Also, it is loud as f**k

Here is the old intake parts:

Have you ever heard of aFe? Their exhaust and intake systems make 55 - 80 HP on their turbo diesel trucks. These guys don't mess around. The tested fitted an intake on my roommates Mazdaspeed 3. It got something like 23HP.

[QUOTE=AustinJay;10562731]The guy in charge of the new division said in about 3 weeks. I can get a sound clip tomorrow.
that is sweet. cant wait. any idea where the price range might fall in? do you notice any difference when driving or at WOT?

Yeah, they dyno'ed it. I will have Ryan email me the dyno. They used a mustang dyno.
As far as performance, I really don't know yet. I used to have a 350AWHP Evo IX, so the power isn't as noticeable. I did notice a better throttle response. I think the ECU needs to get used to the extra airflow first. I will have sound clips tomorrow.
I don't know the price, but i do know that it is going to be sold as a short ram and a CAI. Don't know why, but that's what they said. I can change mine into a short ram.

I think perhaps the reason people are skeptical of the numbers your giving us is just the way you opened this thread.
After months of thinking there are no parts for our car, you just kind of came out of no where claiming to have a cai that gives 16hp from a company most of us have never heard before.
either way im excited to hear more
maybe also a detailed review of the product if you got time. Analysis of quality, performance, looks, installation etc. Thank dude!

I inconspicuously mention that I was getting test fitted for the parts. I just wasn't allowed to go into a lot of detail. That's all.
*note* Read Marcus' post before mine. He even hypes up their product.
Wow- 16HP and 20 ft/lb
I am impressed. Quick question regarding warranty, does installing CAI void the new car warranty. My last ride was a 90 Civic Si, I put CAI and other mods in only after the initial warranty expired.
If you really think about it, it's just a tube with a filter on it. As long no water gets into it, nothing can go wrong really.
Thanks, can't wait to hear the sound clip. I have been limited to adding a few accessories from Honda UK due to the warranty concern. If the db level is reasonable, I will consider it, given the hp gain.

At this point I would have to agree, in particular seeing what the intake is I am very doubtful it has made even half the improvement that is being claimed. The gain is just too great to be believable for what little was done.
For all the skeptics, I will have a dyno sometime today or tomorrow. As for the video, I will get that up later tonight.
I dropped the car off back in late december. The prototype intake made those numbers. They had the car a week to let the ECU remap itself. I only live 15 miles from them, and I don't drive much, so it takes a while.

I don't really get what you're saying here...
First you said the ECU hasn't been reprogrammed, then you said they had it a week to allow for the ECU to be reprogrammed, then you say you haven't driven enough for it to be reprogrammed. Which is it? Has the ECU been reprogrammed or not?

I think what he meant was for the ECU to reset itself to take advantage of the improve airflow. Much like you put in higher octane petrol into the car, the ECU will make the necessary adjustment automatically to give the car higher hp. No reprogramming required on the part of the driver.

He did mention the prototype intake made those numbers when he dropped the car off back in late December. I assume they put the stock intake back when they returned the car to him. Now AustinJay installed the production model, hence, the need again to give the ECU time to reset to take advantage of the improved airflow.
Disconnecting the battery can reset an ECU so it 'theoretically' resets for adjustments, then again it's supposed to to it eventually by itself without a reset, so...whatever.
Anyway, not to disparage the company doing it...what are our cars stock? 210? Then 16 hp would be an 8% increase, which is stout for no other mods. Mustang dyno's are for bragging rights, they are liberal on the base run & the subsequent runs would look better by default. Dynojets or, really, Superflow 900C's would yield more real world numbers.

I was always under the impression of the opposite. My EVO put down a lot smaller numbers on a Mustang dyno and on the dyno jet at tuning tech, the numbers were higher by almost 20 HP. No mods were changed or anything. Actually, now that I think about it, same thing happened with my lightning, my '66 mustang, my supercharged RSX, and my stupid dodge dakota RT 5.9. Who knows, I'm not an expert in that field, nor do I think anyone else he is for that matter. Anything said is just speculation.

I had more time than I thought today. Here is the video. I did these real quick this morning, so don't knock the quality.
