TSX Navigation results

For those who own a Tech Package w/ Nav, I am frustrated with the search results (restaurants, places, etc.). For example, let's say you enter name of a restaurant by location or simply by name- then the result would come up with places from 2000 miles away (I am in Oregon). I tried different approaches with no luck. This is in comparison to my Garmin portable GPS' where results are so much more user friendly. Any thoughts??

I believe this was a gripe on the 1G as well. I guess they haven't fixed it.

I believe there is a vicinity search on the GPS system. I will have a look and report my findings. I do agree though that the GPS software for Alpine, which is what I think this car uses, is not the best I've used.

I once punched in an address that I knew how to get to and my GPS had me go in the most round about way I could have possibly gone.

Yeah, its definitely more difficult to find "points of interest" and the whole categories for food is crap since some are considered "fast food" or "american" or "other".

There are definitely frustrating moments, but xenohid is right. the vicinity search should show you the ones closest to you.

I got one word for you: Garmin.

Not only is my Nuvi much easier to update, it has a better POI database than the factory Acura Nav to begin with. On top of that, my Nuvi cost exactly $2750 less than Acura's system, which based on your complaints, appears to be inferior. I do envy the back-up camera and how the built-in system integrates other vehicle functions though.

Yup, I live in Scotland and get restaurants in France, I'd be dead from starvation by the time I got there. I can call them directly from the Nav though....... :-)

+1 on the moments of frustrations. Sometimes end of giving up after if gives me results from 1000 miles away!! Searching for places is tough especially shopping stores!! Better off googling it on the iphone then plugging in the addy in the navi.

Hahaha, that is hilarious. Completely agree with others; trying to find a specific store can be very difficult. Mostly I use the categories and have a list of stores nearby and scroll through until I find what I'm looking for (which is what I believe was meant by the vicinity search). It still is not that successful a lot of times though. It seems like the system that came with the 09's has an old disc or something, haha.
