subwoofer install

Hey, just wondering if anyone has installed a sub in their car (i have a base model)? The bf is looking for the best way to wire my sub before he actually does it. The stock sub is not sufficient, I am sure everyone will agree. Thanks!

I have done both gens but they were both with navi's and a buddy to help take remove stuff since the head unit is in the trunk mostly and tapping and harnessing all that carp is easy form there. The only pain in the ass is running the wire from the battery to the trunk.

Tapping everything into the stock base model head unit is hard to do for me since it consists of hard little steps that are made or elf's for something. If it was me i would just buy the wiring, amp, box, woofer's, maybe a battery or cap off ebay and have pro install it that would be the cheapest way.

Or the best thing to do is go into several car audio store and try to set up a package deal you just need know how to be aggressive and tell them you can find a better deal. It's like this if you can afford a car that around $30k you should might as well bite the bullet and pay for a professional install unless you bf is a pro or a has done installs on many factory cars.

If you your like me and like big loud speakers i had a JL audio set up for a while that i paid $2200 after i got several quotes on it for over $3k many times and one for $4k i laughed so hard that i almost shit myself and cried at the same time. I got the 13w7 woofer, ported box Jl specs, Jl 0 gauge wiring, Jl 1000/1, Stinger battery, and install. On the plus side everything was factory sealed so no used BS or returned stuff and watched the 2hr install ever second LOL.

I know i was not very helpful about the install part. These were my opinion and if you have any question about price or woofers i can answer that since i have had many set ups in my first gen TSX Alpine (Type r), Jl audio (w7) , Kicker (L7), and currently Treo (TE).

Hey TSX408, your sig says, "3 Bulk Packs of Dynamat Xtreme Entire Car Expect Rear Passenger Door Inside Panel do to Little Dent but Soon to Come."

It should say, "3 Bulk Packs of Dynamat Xtreme Entire Car Except Rear Passenger Door Inside Panel do to Little Dent but Soon to Come."

Also, to the OP, I'm not sure exactly from your post, but if your going with an aftermarket sub, make sure you use an aftermarket amp, and not just the factory one.

I already have the sub, just a JL 10W1 and an amp (punch power 150 by 1)-amp was the bf's. The amp and sub were in my honda, they are good enough for me, much better than the stock. I have a buddy that owns a car stereo shop, but the bf has installed a number of subs before (2 times just for me). So has anyone installed one?

My intention was not to try to embarrass you, but I actually wanted to help you. You have a misspelled word in your sig, and I thought I'd let you know, since I know you didn't do it on purpose.

Just look at my post. Your spelling error and the correct spelling of the word are in bold.

BTW, sorry, OP, I don't mean to get off-topic.

If your bf can do it the let him do it because the wiring is simple just the tapping, harnessing and things of that nature you just need to be careful. or you can probably have you buddy do it just have the proper wiring and all it should take is a some pizza and some beer.

He is careful, and very particular, I think its the mechanical engineer in him. I might have to wait awhile for him to do it though, it has worked out lately that there is always something else that needs to be done. Not his fault, not him slacking, just works out that way.

Haven't done this kind of stuff in years, but the process used to be:

1. Run Power from Battery with inline fuse.
2. Place line adapter off the outputs of the sub's speaker cable. Use an adapter like this:http://www.crutchfield.com/p_543ADP1...h=line+adapter
3. Tap a ground in the trunk and connect it up.

The hardest part will be running power from the battery. Don't skimp on the cable. Lower grade power cables can burn out and could possibly limit the potential of the amp.

Sub Install

All,

I am a complete newb to audio installation and need some assistance. I saw this thread and thought some of your help would assist me.

All I want to do is:

Install a sub and amp to the current sound system.

I have read that I can "tap" into the rear sub speakers so that the amp can obtain the sound needed to run to the sub. But I did want to ask, as someone I work with said this is a possibility, of is there a "sub-out" connection at the headunit that I can plug into?

Like I said, I am not a pro at this stuff, as all I have ever done is basic speaker installation, never a sub / amp.

BTW I have a 2007 TSX w/ Navi.

Any assistance (step by step) would be of great assistance...

Boilerman, repost your question in its own thread in the First Generation TSX section, this section is for the 2nd Gen TSX (09+) and while we could give you same basic advice the guys in the first gen section might be a bigger help : )

Also the first gen has been out for a while and many people must have done their own setups so it should be very possible : )
