Radar Detector

I am looking to buy a radar detector for my 2012 TSX. Any suggestions? I'm not trying to spend any more than $200 though.

then there is no point in getting one.

the only 2 that come in mind that are great are the escort passport 9500ix and the valentine 1.

these both sell new for over $500.

but you can find them used ranging from 200-300

^^^ i (w)hole heartedly disagree with Justn...

I have a Whistler Xtr520....I got it for $100 and it has saved me from atleast a 100 tickets...It detects K/KA/X/Laser/VGN

it has a nice display (I have the blue one and it matches my cars color theme)....you can adjust the brightness/volume/has a highway and 2 city modes....you can change priorities of the alarm....

downsides: no GPS....does pick up false alarm every once in a while (only in city when you go by a shopping center with automated door etc).....other than that I have owned the detector since 4-4.5 years and NO PROBLEMS at all...

i think you can grab that radar detector for $70-80 now...

escort 8500 had it for 10 years plus and it just broke on me and the new one that was released this year is supposed to have longer range. but its 300 bucks and its well worth it i stole my wifes cobra and it works and does the job but not as quick warning as the other one.

I have the new Escort Smart Radar. It was $450 though, so not within the price range you're looking for.

I guess I will save up a few more bucks and buy one of the Escorts. A lot of people that I know have Escort, and have nothing bad to say about them. The only thing is that they are a little pricey, but I guess I will eventually avoid getting tickets which in the end will pay for the Escort. Thanks guys!

Valentine 1 is the best. I have had mine since 2006 and I have never gotten a ticket, when it was turned on. It works seamlessly and has paid for itself many many times over. I could not imagine driving without it.

^hehehe how many false alarms do you get?

the 9500ix has gps capabilities which allows for NO false alarms.

Hey I'm looking one, too. Someone from my local craigslist is selling it for $40

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/m...232036650.html

It's Cobra XRS-9430. I read the reviews and I think it will do the job just fine. Why spend for $300-$500?

You get what you pay for, especially when it comes to radar detectors. With the advancement of technologies employed by LEOs, you want the best protection you can reasonable afford. If your radar detector doesn't go off until it's too late, there's little point in having one.

Might as well not even have a radar detector if you're going to buy the 40 dollar ones....

The only radar detectors that are worth purchasing are Valentine One; Escort Redline, 9500CI, 9500ix, smart radar, 8500 x50 black, Beltronics STiR+, STi Magnum, Pro 500, Pro 300

You can get an Escort 8500x50 or a Beltronics RX65 that are refurbished from Escort Radar's eBay store for about $200

V1 FTW!

I have actually received warnings 5 miles in advance. Just when I thought it was not the LE and was going to adjust back to cruising speed, there they sat! I don't leave home without it...

Damn if you got it 5 miles in advance my radar must be broken lol. At most I think I get 1.5 mile warning but I have always slowed down in time and have yet to get pulled over "KNOCK ON WOOD". I got mine for 275 so it is possible to get cheap v1s!
