Making a bluetooth call (iPhone) -- is it really this hard?!
Hi All,
So my biggest beef with my '09 TSX is the absolutely HORRENDOUS bluetooth implementation. For a 'luxury' car made in '09 it's an absolute joke.
That said, it works passably for receiving calls, apart from the fact that it can't associate phone numbers with contacts that are loaded into the system... awesome.
But, in the 1 year I've owned the car, I've yet to figure out how to make calls in a usable fashion. I don't want to go through my phonebook and record voice commands for EVERY contact. I want to initiate calls from my phone. The problem is that when initiating a call from the phone, the bluetooth in the car doesn't recognize this, and therefore doesn't switch to bluetooth mode. The ONLY way I've figured to initiate a call and end up on the bluetooth is to make the call, WAIT for the person to answer, then fumble around with the car's bluetooth and say "TRANSFER", which, about 10 seconds later, will finally put the call over the bluetooth. Of course by then the person you called is thoroughly confused and has hung up half the time.
Is this really the only way to do it? I know other bluetooth systems will IMMEDIATELY switch to bluetooth mode as soon as it detects the call has started from the phone. Apparently this was too difficult for Acura to put in...

Yes it's quite rediculous. I did play a little more with it today. It seems like if, once you start the call, if (on the iPhone) you press the audio source button, then select the bluetooth, after 2 tries it automatically switches over to the car's bluetooth. I don't know if the recipient has to have answered the call yet or if you can do it while it's ringing. I think this is a "new feature" with my new iPhone 4, but not 100% sure.

I've voiced the same complaints basically since I got the car over a year ago.
From what i hear, though, the 2010's automatically do the transfer when you dial from the phone. Too bad we can't get this on the 2009's.

thats odd. When i pick up my phone and make a phone call the car switches over to bluetooth regardless of what audio source i am using.
just read the last post... I have a 2010.

my buddy found a setting (this was on his blackberry) and turned out it's the PHONE that doesn't use the bluetooh link. The acura HFL is always ready to take over a call it's up to the phone to transfer it to the bluetooth rather than it's internal speaker. When I linked my Iphone 3GS to his 07 TSX it worked the same way, dial the number hit send, and then the phone call rings thru the HFL.

I finally ditched my iPhone (terrible service in SF Bay Area) and got a Droid X.
