I had an iPhone before I bought my TL and I have it plugged up to USB to listen to Spotify all the time. The music quality is a bit better when listening to songs via USB on the iPod or iPhone.

Yes both the iPod and iPhone charge when connected through USB. You can have it connected also via Bluetooth as well. My iPhone is mounted via windshield mount right next to the steering wheel as I use Waze for navigation. The navigation app is up and songs play in the background. When I get a phone call or navigation alert, the music mutes and calls and information go through the speakers. It is really nice!

only thing that sucks about the ipod usb feature is that it only plays the playlist you have playing before you plug it in.

i used to leave my itouch in the car but sometimes it gets to hot so it won't work. iTouch will give the overheat warning. That's why I use a USB now.

Before i got and iphone, i used an 8 gb ipod nano that i left plugged into the car. I got it for really cheap since the back light on the screen doesnt work, but you can still see it. and the battery does not hold a charge. Im not sure if the wheel works or not, but it doesnt matter since i control it from the car.
But i dont need it anymore, willing to sell for like $15 if its wanted.

I use an iPod touch 32 GB since it has wifi syncing. I just leave it plugged in to the USB in the center console and never take it out. It charges while driving and automatically syncs over wifi when the car gets close enough to the house.
