Bizarre bluetooth issue
Bizarre bluetooth issue
I can't explain the connection between the phone and the problem - maybe somebody else can.
I'm running a Blackberry 9930 on Sprint. It has been running fine for a few years and sync'd fine with my 2012 TSX and has been working fine with my 2013 since September. I've not added, deleted or changed any programs on my phone for at least a half year.
Yesterday the HFL immediately went into "transfer" mode and looked like it was making a call to "unknown". I couldn't hang up yet the phone didn't show any activity and worked fine. Disconnecting from HFL made the HFL appear normal again but as soon as the phone reconnected it would go directly to "transfer" and lock everything up.
Deleting the phone from the HFL and the HFL from the phone (including reboots) did nothing. The problem remains.
So I figured the HFL was done (the phone pairs with other BT devices) but my work 9900 (on Verizon) pairs and works nicely.
What's even weirder is that my wife's 9930 (also on Sprint) started doing the identical thing with her 2013 Civic today.
And today my mom's 9650 (on Sprint) started rebooting.
The other similarity is all three phones suffered very quick battery drain the day of the failures - mine went from full to 10% in a few hours yesterday and my wife's went to 10% today - normally they last a good 2 days. We've swapped batteries in each phone (the advantage of having identical phones is that you can have multiple accessories - like 5 extra batteries)
Anybody have any suggestions?

Sounds like something is wrong with Sprint then, no? Your phone, your wife's phone and mom's phone all which happen to be from Sprint all have this weird issue. While the one with Verizon works fine?
As for the battery drain, sounds like the phone, even when not being paired with the car is constantly using some form of data or connectivity that is unseen to the naked eye. Nothing else can really explain two phones at the same time losing significant amount of charge in a day.
You might want to contact Sprint to see if maybe they can do some kind of reset with your service or ask if they've had this issue before and tell them it's not happening with other phone carriers. Other thing is ask them or check if your minutes are actually going up if an unknown kind of call is really being made. Also check your data usage.
I don't know, that's a weird situation and I really don't know what's going on besides it having something to do with Sprint and seeming like it's trying to transfer some kind of data to your car...or something. Also, might be worth a shot to ask Acura?
Please report back if you find out what it is, I'm interested.

I'm waiting for our company's Sprint rep to contact me - maybe they have some ideas.
I'm just puzzled by how this works technically. The HFL locks up as if I'm on a call yet the phone itself works fine as if it isn't paired.
To summarize - immediately upon connecting to the phone after startup, the HFL acts as if I've initiated a call on the handset. The handset hasn't made a call and can be used independently without issue. This seems to only affect Sprint phones and affects Acura and Honda HFLs - and only in the last few days.
I would try to disconnect your phone from the HFL, backup the phone and do a full reset(if you want, try doing the battery pull and wait 1 min, then put back in, turn car on, and connect bluetooth first), then try to reconnect the phone. you could also try turning the car on, let it connect, then hit airplane mode on the phone for a min, then turn off airplane mode and let it try to connect normally. i've had it with my iPhone 5 and my tsx where the car would keep cycling into that same mode, as if i had made a phone call, then hang up in 30 seconds or so, and repeat. turning off the bluetooth and car, then turning both back on usually fixed the problem. don't recall if it ever happened when i had my blackberry.
the battery drain is likely from the phone trying to connect repeatedly to bluetooth. try turning BT on the phone off for the day and see if that works to help battery life.

Thanks. It is odd that both phones (in two different cars) would do the same thing at virtually the same time.
I'll try your suggestions. Thanks!
better? =D

I may have found a resolution. BerryWeather (a very nice weather app now also available for iPhone) started doing very odd things a few days ago - specifically, it would send out the same weather advisory ever 5 minutes. That coincided with my BT going zonkers. I had to turn off every alert individually ("do you want tsunami alerts", "do you want ice storm alerts" etc).
I only put two and two together when my wife asked me "how do you shut those annoying alerts off"?
I drove to a meeting and the HFL wasn't working. I shut off all advisories, rebooted and the phone/HFL combo worked on the way back. Now we'll see if this fixes my wife's car issues as well. I'll report back in the morning.

At least you got one of the phones fixed.

Nawww - both are back to being locked up as soon as they connect. I backed mine up and reloaded just the OS - no luck. My next step is to go to a Sprint repair shop.
have you tried unplugging it from the outlet and plugging it back in?
are you sure your device is on?
if both devices are on, you're screwed, burn the car and buy a toyota.
call paypal.
maybe if you lived in a better neighborhood.
Thanks STUNNA!

are you sure your device is on? It is supposed to be on? Who knew?

maybe if you lived in a better neighborhood. I haven't been able to find a hitch that will allow me to pull my single-wide across the tracks.
