Anyone bought the 2015 nav map update?
Anyone bought the 2015 nav map update?
Is it worth it? Any new features? I was hoping it would improve but from reading the site it sounds like it's pretty much the same old thing. I wish we could set the ETA not the time to arrival. It's interesting how long it will take but I really want to know when I am going to get there.

The map updates are regional, with different parts of the country updated annually. Each area gets updated roughly every 4 to 5 years as far as mapping is concerned but POI are updated more frequently for the entire country.
Accordingly, it depends on when your area was last updated if you will see a mapping difference. I don't know of any firmware or software changes.
The system cannot take traffic into consideration nor can it realistically consider traffic lights (I get all the red lights, you get all the green ones) but it does continual updates of your ETA.
Waze takes traffic into consideration and many have that running on their phones in addition to the nav on the dash.

Guess I went off topic. The update is likely just going to update the "content", not update existing features nor introduce new ones. All you're likely going to get is new roads that didn't exist before.
Manufacturers do use map updates to update hardware and software, but I don't believe that Honda/Acura does that.

Showing ETA instead of Time to Destination isn't all that cosmic. Think about it. Just add the TTD/TTA to the current time and voila - ETA.
The maps aren't the issue as much as the functionality. I do suspect the update isn't all that grand. We love the TSX but the nav software is in tight competition with the Subaru system for being the worst functionally. I'll wait until someone has purchased it and can comment but I suspect someone would have posted if it was something great. I'll wait for now. I have yet to be off the map when routing to an address.

Install questions for Nav upgrade
I have the 2012 Wagon and bought the new Nav disc (I think the "orange" one) and have not done the install because the instructions state I have to leave the car running for 30 mins but not drive it. We have had several spare the air days, so that doesn't seem like a great idea. Is this because they don't want you to be driving and working the Nav set up at the same time, or because the GPS needs to have the car stationary?
Thank you for your help,

I have a Acura tsx 2010 tech was also wondering the same question. I don't have the hard drive one that the newer models you can update from Navteq.com so was wondering is there anyway for me to upgrade the menu and stuff. If not where is this software located in the car for the menu I can always mod it myself by replacing the pic design. If I upgrade the navi 2015 from 2010 any differences on software itself not just the maps?
It appears that Acura could update the software if they wanted. Check out this feature in the 2015 map for my 2011 TSX.

I took Acura up on the $99 update for 2015. It fixed a number of roads but otherwise didn't add any features like ETA. I love the car but the nav is pretty mediocre. I am still not sure why it doesn't default to "nearest" without being told. The first result listed is usually 2000 miles away. Yeah, that's my first choice when looking for a Costco.
I have a 2011 Tech and it has none of the nanny features of the later models. I have pretty much all of the NAV functionality whether I am moving or stopped.
I have hesitated updating the NAV because a dealer told me it would also add the nanny features and they cannot be backed out.
For anyone who upgraded in a 2011 vehicle, was any of the NAV functionality disabled while in motion after the upgrade?

To add to my earlier post. I have a 2011 TSX Tech and have not updated the NAVI because I am worried that all of the "nanny" features will also load into my car.
My system has no restrictions on inputting addresses, phone numbers etc while the car is in motion. See this TLX thread on why Honda/Acura put restrictions on this functionality starting in 2012:

A dealer warned me that if I update the NAVI software, these nanny features will also be loaded in.
Can anyone who upgraded the NAVI from a 2011 or earlier model year confirm that this will happen?

My maps thought I had gotten off the highway. And there's a road underneath the highway that's parallel, so it thought I was on that. It then proceeded to ask me to make all sorts of lefts/rights while in practice, that would mean me driving off the highway

You gatta love the lack no update, update we paid for
. Sounds like you were around Gardiner Expy, underneath & parallel???
Yep! I been there many many times, I know the area very well for someone who does not lives there. Usually whenever I visit, my family would leave a key somewhere if they are not home. I fly in at YYZ pickup my rental car & drive to Scarborough. From the tower down town to Markham, I find my way around quite easily long before navigation LOL...
I bought latest nav update 99.00 took 20 min to install leaving car running then continues to up date for an hour or so. But it does update when your driving and stops when you shut car off and continues when you drive again. Also does not add any features that lock out inputs while cars moving. Firm ware would have to be updated along with hardware for that to happen.
It is specific for one vehicle per the EUSA. You need to supply your VIN and software version # when ordering.
I updated my '11 and thankfully, no additions of the navigation nanny features that started with the '12 models.
It loads a bit faster, and is also more likely to recognize congestion on the route and suggest a detour.
Maybe I am going deaf in middle age, but sometimes I hear the voice saying the wrong direction after a multi-direction guidance.
Something like "take the exit on the right and then turn left." When I exit off the freeway, she will then say, "Take the next right turn."
Has anyone else noticed this?

Still goes to cash-only toll boths?
I've got 2012 with Nav. It annoys me how the GPS always treats tolls as exits and tries to direct me to cash lines - "in 1/4 mile exit right", etc. Like most people in IL I use electronic transponders to pay. Do you know if after updates this dumb redirection will stop?
Thanks
Thanks
