8" speakers in the doors
8" speakers in the doors
Has anyone ever tried to replace 6.5" speakers in the doors with 8" speakers ... There is some cutting on the door frame I'm guessing but just wondering if anyone has done this.... Feedback would be great

Do you have a system diagram or anything. I can't figure it out. You are running 3-8" per door (I see that from the pics). Where are the 12" & 10" 18sounds mounted? I assume your subs are in an enclosure in the trunk? Where is the crossover point of all of these (including the 8")?
good stuff bro im looking to replace my stock speakers in the doors with 8" eighteen sound speakers i wonder how it would sound ......i also got 2 12z w7 to put in too i beeen had them...wa u think of the 8" eighteen sound and w7 12" how they sounding post a video
What kind of competition? And do you put all the boxes in the trunk or are some inside your car?
it all depends on you... if u a bass fan, go for the mb series. but if u want your back jl bass to go with your voice go with the M series the difference between them 2 different series is the mb throws more bass for those cars that are packed with loud voice speakers and tweeters
car music competition, i take out my back seat and throw in all my speaker box in the back when i get to my destination i take out all the boxes and plug the guitar cable to the box
I guess I'm not familiar with the type of competition you do. I have been competing in sound quality competitions (USACi, IASCA, MECCA) for years and I've never seen anything like what you are doing in those competitions. The competitions I am familiar with are meant to have extreme sound quality, staging, imaging, and lifelike sound, while still having amazing dynamics.
lmfaoooo get your head out those competitions ^^ im talking about street audio competitions.... right now u comparing NAS cars to street racing.... go to my progress thread and check the box with the 2 EVs and 2 tweeters... now picture 4 of those boxes of those on top of your cars roof.... this is my boys Honda Accord

NASCAR to street racing? I can't even think of a proper analogy. Your car is not even drivable that way. I guess my analogy would be, mine is a car and yours is merely a moving van. Mine takes actual skill and years of knowledge to do and can take a VERY long time to achieve. I could buy a huge van and easily win, because all you have to do is be the loudest and cleanest - and transport the most speakers.....lol.
Good luck in your competitions, and as long as you enjoy audio, that is all that matters. But I'll stick to the real thing, Thanks!

LMFAO, dude, no offense, but that is utterly ridiculous. Our competition are sanctioned with judges that are well trained in sound quality and the competitions have to do with accurately reproducing music IN the car, to enjoy while driving. Yours is nothing more than PA speakers and trying to be as loud and obnoxious as possible. Yours is NOT car audio...you may connect the speakers to your head unit, but unless you plan on traveling down the interstate that way, it's not car audio.

lmfaoooooo please show me a car thats in one of those competition that can be driven with 4 people in them, most of those car can only fit 2 people "you and passanger" cuz' everything else is either fiber glass or huge ass bass speakers... soo please don't talk shit, no one looking for a van. My car speaks for it self even if i didn't have my 3 chuchero box in the back seat my doors would speak for them self...

and please show me what you have achieved "Mine takes actual skill"??? still haven't seen a threat started by you about your car or your soo called skills and achievements.

I have done competition level systems in about 40-50 cars. I have put together from scratch 2 blind subjective listening tests on the best Midbass and Midrange speakers in the world and published worldwide 20+ page papers for each. I have helped many on this forum (3G TL) with their systems and all would speak very highly of me. And finally, I had one of my personal vehicles place 5th in USACi National Finals in pure Sound Quality and have countless trophies.

Please stop, you are just embarrassing yourself now with your complete lack of knowledge about true sound quality cars. 99% of "Sound Quality" cars/competition cars retain their backseat, if they had one in the first place. Most are completely stealth installs with fiberglass kick panels or a-pillars and NONE have "voice" speakers.....because there isn't such a thing. There are tweeters, midrange, midbass, subwoofers, and horns (for those that wish to use them). Sound quality is NOT the same as SPL. If you want to learn anything useful about car audio, try visiting DIYMA.
Here was my TL I just sold. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=804628

Where are my trophies at? These are just a few I had lying around.

Here is the finals one. (I back up my talk)

Did you not look at my TL build log. Would you like me to send you a .pdf of the tests I did or link you to the results in DIYMA?
Where is my TSX? In the garage currently. The build is coming. It takes a while to plan out everything to coincide with competition rules and look like it actually belongs there. I can't just throw shit in a box and call it a system.

Right now that plan is to used the factory Head Unit (but anything is possible) and the Dyn 1200 in a down firing sealed enclosure in the trunk. The ARC SE amps will be in the spare tire well. The 8" Dynaudio MW172's are going to try to be shoehorned into the kicks, venting to the outside. The Dynaudio MD102's would be in custom sail panels OR the a-pillars. And the Dynaudio Esotar2 430's in the kicks, off the a-pillar or molded into the sail panel. Those are causing me the most design issues at the moment.
I have some really interesting integration ideas that should be really cool for a factory fit and finish.
@niebur3
sick shyt homie. I really look forward to seeing how you integrate the stock head unit into your setup. I want to do the same and looking for the best option for best preamp signal. The jbl ms8 is so bulky i dont want to use it

Yeah i am interested on how you will use the stock HU, i like the "stealth" installs also. I want to retain the stock HU.. but replace the amp. I've already replaced all 4 speakers and dynamated everything but i think with an amp it would sound a bit better.
I also want to find some way to retain the stock HU, but also install an android tablet in the dash.... Not sure if that's possible yet.

Wow. Sorry for bringing this to the top, I was searching for something else and stumbled upon this thread. How's it going Jerry? For those of you that don't know Jerry, he's made quite an impact on the 3G audio community. I thought I knew what sound quality was and then I met Jerry. He introduced me to the world of Dynaudio and time alignment and now I know its possible to hear incredible detail with amazing resolution where you hear things you've never heard before like the singers breath or even spit. You can hear flaws in the recording. Studio flaws like a chair moving, hum from the mic wiring, etc. and while you've got that level of detail, you have a stage at the windshield where you can hear where each instrument is placed, where the singer is standing and which way he's facing. You can hear when he turns the other direction or moves across the stage. You can hear a piano being played and the sound moving around on the piano depending on which notes are being played. It sounds like you're at a live concert. Amazing sound and staging at concert levels. He fabbed up my custom kick panels for my Dynaudio 430 midranges where they're hidden and take up no foot space. My TL has 1200w to the front stage and 500w to the subs. Lots of power on the fronts in an SQ car means incredible life like dynamics. Subs are very efficient and take up almost zero room or power. They're infinite baffle so I have 90% of my trunk space left over with a pair of 15s and I'm sure Jerry has even more with his IB setup. It's sad to see him leave the 3G TL but I'm looking forward to his TSX build. Hopefully he will still offer his services for the TLs. He definitely guided me to a world class SQ system with no loss of utility and on the stock charging system.
I have to lol at the speakers outside and on top of the car and calling it a competition with no judges or meters. What a waste.
I could see myself in a new TSX soon. My TL is getting older so maybe this will work out.
Almost forgot, I don't know how similar they are but I was able to get the Dynaudio MW182 9" midbass in the doors of my TL fairly easily and with the stock door panel in place. It looks completely stock on the outside, you would never know there are 9s in there. It's highly recommended to go larger in the midbass department in a 3-way setup.

Niebur3, looking forward to your install even though I don't have a TSX yet, it's always nice to see some ideas. Although I have a feeling I will not go to the extent as you.
My simple build log on CA.com, although the results were excellent, everything was pulled except the SR6500 as I lost interest for awhile.
