2009 TSX + Alpine System

Hi, I just ordered a 10w7 in the enclosed prowedge box and i know its gonna sound awesome. Problem:

THe stock speakers in my tech package 2009 TSX keep blowing, ive had almost all of them replaced at least twice from the dealership ( for free tho ).

I was thinkin about putting in Alpine Type R component speakers.

In the front of the car I was thinking about going with the SPR-17S: http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/spr-17s/
- question: will these 6 1/2 inch speakers fit? or should i get the 5 1/4 inch models?

In the rear doors I was thinking about putting in the
SPR-17C: http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/spr-17c/
- same question: will these 6 1/2 inch speakers fit? or should i go with 5 1/4 inch models?

Behind the rear headrests i was thinking about goin with
SPR-69C: http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/spr-69c/
- same question: will these 6x7's fit or should i got with the 5x7 model?

Other questions and comments:

When answering, take into consideration that I dont wanna do any cutting n stuff, I want a straight forward installation (tho i hear i might have to do some alterations to fit the tweeters). And I want it to run with the ELS system.

Also, what are those little boxes that come with the component speakers ? ( the SPR-17S for the front of the car )

And last but not least, what kind of amp / amps, do i need to power this setup. I dont wanna cheap out so dont give me a bargain amp

If you can answer any of these questions id really appreciate it, first time using accurazine

Jeff, I decided to just get this professionaly installed lol.

1) I was reading a post, that somone replaced all their tech package speakers with Alpine Type S and it was a straight up install, stock amps an everything, if thats true I would prefer that... Would the stock amp blow the Type S speakers like it has the Tech speakers ? Should I do this ?

2) If I should just go with the Type R setup, do you have any tips for my installer ? I do like the ELS system and would like to keep it, but from reading some of your posts it sounds like I should ditch it.

I will show your reply directly to my installer. Though hes one of the best installers in town I dont think hes disected the TSX as you have lol, and I want things done right..

Can you keep in mind that your talking to my installer, and tell him the best way to install the Type R system, considering what kind of amps i should use, and all this talk about HU's and the Amp controlling the volume and equalizer and the ELS system etc. etc, stuff that i dont understand an that he will. ( money isnt an issue i want it done right if i do the type R,,,, thooo, if type S is a direct install i would rather do that cuz im not a huuuge audiophile, i jus like things done right ) - also keep in mind that im installing a 10w7 and how that should be hooked up. I hope thats not a huge bother to u, but thanks so much anyway, i been reading all your posts ur pretty brilliant at this stuff.

I replaced all my stock speakers with aftermarket off the stock amp (for now) and I’m not too happy with it. The stock ELS amp is a complicated beast as I have posted and its excessive compensation is evident with better then stock speakers. I’m running Polk now because I had them on hand and because I like the silk tweeters. That being said, if was staying with the stock amp I would have to pad down the tweeters because the stock amp boosts the highs to ear bleed” levels. Most installers will reach for the 360 or req device but I would advise against that for two reasons, one is that the stock amps eq varies with the selected source and volume level, two that the stock amp already overly processes the signal in the digital domain and any more processing will just push the distortion to new heights.
If you get components up front go with something with an adjustable tweeter level, for the rears if you use them, skip the tweeters and go with a good mid bass.
I’m about a week away from testing the ELS preamp in the car, right now I’m testing it on my surround system with and the results (sound wise) are promising. I have all the digital control signals worked out and wrote a program to simulate them on my laptop. I’ll post a photo when I get a chance.

Cheers
Jeff

My ELS replacement preamp works, I am working on tweaks and mods like upgrading the internal passives to higher quality. I plan to do another in car test this weekend. Once I have it all sorted out I will see what it would cost to get it built.

^whats the point of a video of a sound?
the mic on the camera will not pick it up correctly and then your speakers will not emit it correctly.....
it will be distorted and not heard correctly...

and then you'll second guess your recent purchase and have buyers remorse all because a video of a sound was crappy.

I suggest heading to a shop and ACTUALLY hearing the speakers... ya know in real life.

^^ True justnspace u right......but would still be nice to see pics of custom trunk setups, audio doesn't seem to be big in the 2nd gen scene but I know there's a couple ppl out there that take audio serious like mellostack.

BEWARE OF ALPINE: have Alpine Nav system from factory and it does not work. Will not read where the car is and therefore can't tell me what is near even when I type in a specific place...I live in Denver and it tells me the closest Chili's is in California.
