Thumbs down Useless fog lights ?

We had pretty bad fog in New Jersey on saturday and I found the fog lights on my 09 tsx pretty useless. I found that it made no difference if I had the fog lights on or off.

I think it might have been of some use if I could turn off my main lights and only had the fog lights on .... but this was not possible.

Are the fog lights there only for consmetic reasons ?

What is the experience of others on the forum ?

I had my fogs wired up independently for this reason.
in thick fog I use the fogs only, no headlights or any other lights.

With HID's fog lights seem pretty foolish. I had them on my last few vehicles and noticed the same thing, they did next to nothing. From now on, unless they come standard, I will not be getting fog lights with cars that have HID's.

Even so, usefull or not, I prefer the look WITH fog lamps as opposed to cars that simply block off the opening with a plastic insert.

i agree with the OP that the fogs are useless. however, they look damn good compared to the stock plastic shrouds in it's place

They've come to be on par with a spoiler in the functionality dept, but that's OK, I have a spoiler to. I would keep them on to look cool but I don't like how it creates a distracting aura of light around the front of the car.

The driving lights aren't a huge benefit, but it does a good job of lighting up the area immediately in front or on the corners which helps on dimly lit roads at night.

I got a ticket once in a car where I had parking lights on, but no headlights.

I believe some states do not allow fog lights to be on in place of headlights (I believe California is one of those states), hence you cannot turn on the fogs independently without rewiring them. Stupid law.

Acura is more strict in its implementation of laws, but it made the foglights virtually worthless in foggy weather. Other makers allow fogs to be turned on independently (Mercedes Benz for example). Another thing is that you cannot have your low beams (HIDs), high beams, and fog lights on simultaneously. It's wired purposely so you won't break another law (no more than 4 lights in front at any given time).

I can't see any difference with the fogs being on or off in any weather since the HIDs are so bright to begin with.

I'm sure if you got Hyper Yellow HID FOGS, you would notice its effectiveness.

The stock fog light settings were too low. They were aimed too low from the factory to prevent glare. I re-aimed them tonight and they are a lot better now. I can see the yellow fog light spread to the side more now, but with minimal glare. My recommendation is to put in yellow bulbs (I currently use Polarg) and aim them a bit higher, but not into the HID low beams area. Just use a long Philips head screwdriver and stick it underneath the bumper, screw it to aim it.
