Turn Signal issue

Recently since it's gotten much colder, I have an issue with the right turn signal not staying in the up position.. It seems to only happen when it's around 25 degrees or colder. I'll flick up the signal to turn right and after a flash or two it resets. Does this sound like a bulb issue? When it was able to stay up, I walked around the car and all the lights were flashing. Any ideas what this could be? Sounds like a bulb issue, but I can't seem to figure it out.

Do you mean the switch stem returns to N (off) position (mechanical problem w/ Stem Switch) or turn signal stops flashing w/ stem in RH turn position. If later suspect the Turn Signal Hazard Warning Circuit. It appears to be a module on the Drivers Under Dash Fuse/Relay box.

good luck

The stem actually comes back to normal after it flashes a couple of times. It won't stay in the on position unless I hold it there. Happened again this morning as it was 25 degrees. Really weird it only happens in the cold temps.

This is a mechanical problem and a new or used stem switch assy req'd to repair. Relatively easy repair. See attachment.

good luck

Back in the old days (60-70s), there was a set of ratchet teeth on the steering wheel, and teeth on the stalk, when the wheel returned to center, it would release the ratchet and the stalk. The teeth on either piece used to break, and the stalk would not stay in position.

I'd guess in your case, the teeth (or whatever replaced them) are slightly damaged, and the slight shrinkage occurring from the cold could be preventing them from staying latched. (Note the word guess)

That's a pretty good guess. It literally never happens when it's above freezing. It was around 38 today when I left and I had no issues at all. And as the car gets warmer, it goes away. PS: Shrinkage and Cold brought me back to the famous Seinfeld episode..." I was in the pool".

Wanted to leave everyone with that thought, even tho I never watched Seinfeld. I just know the quote.
