Exclamation TPMS Issues

I have been having tpms issues this weekend. I mounted and balanced two new tires on my stock wheels and swapped from my 19” TSWs to the stockies for winter tread. Ive had the 19s with no tpms sensors on the car for like 5 years. With the stock wheels on, The tpms system worked immediately and was functioning fine. After 50 miles or so it came with the “system error”, no reading and both error lights on. I have VSA disabled through hondata, wondering if there is a problem there or if my sensors battery died after a little use. I tried pulling the fuse to reset the system and driving around the block with no cell phone charger in. Does anyone have insight?

How old are the sensors? I've found that the sensors from the 09's and 10's are starting to die. What is more likely though, is that something interfered with the signal. You can try clearing codes or just giving it time.

I have that periodically. In my case, it always pops up when driving by a particular building, stays on for a couple of hours or a couple of days and then all is well.

That's assuming you didn't damage a sensor when mounting the tire.

I imagine they are oem sensors. Thing is they worked fine for a good half day.
How do you clear the code? Hondata had no DTCs thrown. I tried disconnecting all chargers. Pulled the fuse, re inserted it, wasn't blown. My ez pass could be interfering maybe

Off the subject or at least somewhat ... What exactly causes a TPMS issue?

I have a 2010 and if I go for a longer trip I will get a TPMS error after about 30mins of driving almost every time. I'm pretty sure I just have a sensor or two dying.

^^^^^ Same here, just started happening with me. Yet I check the pressure, and all is good with the pressure....

Could be low battery on one or more of the sensors, or interference with a phone charger. I have experienced both on my beloved TSX. (There is an old thread here about it). Chances are, if you're on the original sensors, they are low battery and need to be replaced. (a TPMS tool can check the codes and confirm if it's low battery). If there is only a general error code, it's likely interference.

Every so often, when driving with my trunk full, and wet weather, my TPMS throws a system error. Posts a code which can be found on the screen if you have the tech package. Don't plan on fixing it unless it doesn't clear itself.

ceb has a point here. TPMS sensors are battery operated. As we all know, batteries do not last forever. When they are on their way out, this is how they behave. Work for a while, then peter out. Word to the wise, if you have a sensor dying, then they are all likely on their way out (due to age). Where I am going with this is, if you want to maintain system operation, replace all 4 sensors. Sure, you could scan them all, find the dead one(s), and replace accordingly. However, as someone who operates an auto garage, I ask my customers "how many times do you want to come back for presumably the same issue?"

If you want a one and done fix, replace all 4. It is right about $300 at my shop (most vehicles) to replace all 4 sensors. You will find that it will be a lot higher at the dealership, as the OEM parts go for over $100 each. Tack on an hour or so worth of labor, and I would not be surprised if your bill at Acura would crest $600.
