I am trying to get a new key for my 2009 TSX that I bought over the weekend but local Acura dealers are charging me an arm and a leg. Anyone know where in the SF Bay area I can get a switchblade key for <$200?

 

It costs that much cuz it has to be "programmed" if I'm not mistaken right? and that can only be done at a Stealership

 

yeah sadly you have to go to the dealership for yours. should've gone there to get your car to begin with.

 

I read here that it costs them ~$100 for the key, and 20 mins to program it. I am not sure why they ask for $360 for something that costs them ~$120 ...

 

If you're in the Bay Area I'd suggest calling Oakland Acura. I've had very good experiences with them. Also, if you order off the e-store online, you get 20% off.

Shouldn't you have 2 switchblades and one valet key? You can get an uncut key from eBay but cutting it and programming the chip is what costs a lot. You used to be able to get the switchblade keys for super cheap on eBay but it's been steadily rising over the years.

 

@mrstak No i bought the car used from a crappy dealer who gave me only 1 key, so am trying to make a spare.

 

get it from ebay from remotez4less, i paid 65 for their key and it works like a charm, saved 60 bucks and my dealer programmed mine after that

it says on their ebay page that you will receive a remote that DOES NOT have the acura logo, but when i actually got my key it was an acura branded acura key for driver 2 with an uncut key. Perfect.

 

Btw KG, did you beat your sister for losing your other key? and I'm </3 that you are leaving so soon and not hanging out with me.

 

thanks killerg. i just looked up remotez4less on eBay but they don't have keys for the 2009 TSX. I ended up buying one from the Acura of Peoria store on eBay ...
