Scraped a Brick Wall... what to do now???
So I was parking behind my building (downtown Chicago, tight parking) and while reversing and turning the front right corner of my car scraped against the brick wall. The damage isn't terrible but there are a good 10-15 horizontal lines/scratches about 8 inches in length, a few of which definitely penetrated the plastic a millimeter or so. My deductible is $500 currently, before I go wasting time at dealerships and such does anyone have any idea what the best step/direction I should go in is? New bumper? Repaint? It's a lease, they informed me $1500 in damage is allowed when I return the car but I don't think i can live with this damage for 2.5 more years. Also, should I avoid claiming this to my insurance? I've never had any previous claims but figure there's a good chance something else will happen in the future. Please help. Thanks!!!

Another thing... I wouldn't mind upgrading to a Sport Bumper but what it really comes down to is what is the cheapest way to fix this? Also, would it look terrible if I simply had the bumper repainted, would that be expensive? I'm new to all of this. Thanks

I would suggest you go to a reputable auto body shop and get a quote for the repair.
If it's only the bumper that needs repair, may be you should consider upgrading to the sports aero bumper from Acura as they come prepainted (paintmatch). I had my rear bumper replaced last week because a street vendor dropped her flower cart onto my right rear. Instead of repainting the bumper, I replaced it with the aero bumper.

A fellow forum member Kristy7911 had the Sports aero bumper installed on her car. Compare the quote from the body shop for repaint and the cost of the new aero bumper (paintmatch) and decide.

I had some siding installers put a nice gouge in my rear bumper. I was quoted $600 for the repair and repaint. I'll use that towards the sport bumper in the spring, fellow Chicagoan here heh. For now, I dabbed some touch up paint in the gouge. It still looks horrible since they also left a nice dent in the plastic. Even the parts dept said it would be cheaper in the long run getting the prepainted sports bumper. You also wont have to worry about not having the paint match up or the paint flaking off in the future.
My bumper on my previous car (silver) was scratched and they had to paint it 3 times because they couldnt match the color. Metallics are especially a PITA, the paint code can be the same but the metallic flake orientation can be different and make the paint look like a different shade. The paint on the bumper ended up flaking after a couple months.

Upgrade the bumper...you will never get the same quality paint finish at a body shop because they put a negative and positive charge in the paint and on the body at the assembly plant paint shop. As thunderbt3 mentioned ^^ it will eventually flake.
I haven't leased before but I hear that you will lose money for installing aftermarket parts, you might want to keep the stock bumper for when you trade it back in.

Thanks everyone. I'll likely suck it up and buy the sports bumper. Does anyone know the cheapest / best place to purchase it from? Online or in store? I live in Chicago if anyone knows of a store that sells them at a discount... Thanks everyone.

Assuming your car is only a few months old, a prepainted bumper would prob be ok. Otherwise you'll likely have to paint the entire bumper, whether it's a new bumper or fixing your current one. "Spot" painting isn't a good idea.
I had someone back into my car and scratched the paint. I chose to replace the entire bumper, which they had to paint-match. It was difficult for them but matched it about 95%. No one notices but me. Cost to their insurance was about $1000.

So I'm 99% sure I'll just suck it up and buy the sports bumber.... but I was contemplating pulling this shady move (looking for others opinions first)... has anyone ever called their insurance company to lower their deductible (likely for me from $500 to $250) and then a few months later made a claim for something cosmetic such as this? Or does anyone know the consequences of this, such as a guaranteed hike in their premium even if it's your first claim? Also, if I did claim it, is it possible to have them install the sports bumber assuming they will have to replace it all together or would that additional cost have to come out of my pocket?

Um, that's fraud and could be a felony.
Is it worth losing your ability to vote or own a firearm?
How would you feel having to explain that to a prospective employer and get denied employment in certain industries for the rest of your life?
Man up and deal with it.

I realize that this is a little late but you could have checked with the local Acura dealers to see if they recently upgraded one of their TSXs with the sports bumpers and ask if you could purchase the ones they took off.

Well that was funny. I was reading...then there was my car. I agree you should go for the sport bumper. You may want to check for a local source (Acura Prestige is in California, I drove by it last weekend), the shipping is bound to be expensive. It's a big box!
